World's first-ever aluminium coil made entirely from 100% recycled, end-of-life automotive scrap: Today, we announced the first aluminium coil made entirely from post-consumer recycled automotive scrap. This low-carbon pilot material meets the high-performance requirements for car body skin outer applications and represents a significant step forward in advancing the circular economy. Our collaboration with thyssenkrupp Materials Services through the Automotive Circularity Platform (ACP) has been instrumental in sourcing materials, and we will continue to work with automotive partners to scale this technology. According to the latest report from Metal Packaging Europe (MPE) Packaging Europe and EUROPEAN ALUMINIUM, the overall recycling rate for aluminium beverage cans in the EU, UK, Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland reached 75%, with 580,000 tonnes of aluminium recycled. This effort saved 5.4 million tonnes of CO2eq – equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of a European city with over half a million inhabitants, such as Oslo or Genoa! Germany recycles around 99% of its aluminium beverage cans, the UK 78%, France 51%, and Italy achieves an impressive recycling rate of 92%. Globally, Novelis recycles over 80 billion used beverage cans per year. These cans can be back on store shelves in as little as 60 days - and this process can be repeated over and over again. Novelis is investing $4.1B in U.S. manufacturing with the construction of its fully integrated aluminum recycling and rolling mill in Bay Minette, Alabama. This is the single largest investment in the aluminum industry in more than 40 years. Commencing in the second half of 2026, the facility will have 600kt of finished goods capacity and will primarily serve the beverage can and automotive markets.? ? This plant will play an important role as Novelis advances circular aluminum solutions in the United States and focuses efforts on increasing recycled content and lowering CO2e.
