?? Today is Lipoprotein(a) Awareness Day – do you know what it is and why it is important? Lipoproteins are particles in your blood that carry cholesterol and other fats. Lp(a) can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases (#CVD), including heart attack and stroke. Elena Kleiziene, our Cardiology Therapy Area Lead in Lithuania, says: “Approximately 1 in 5 people worldwide have elevated levels of Lp(a) in their blood. While there is currently no specific treatment for elevated Lp(a) levels, being aware of your Lp(a) levels empowers you and your doctor to effectively manage your overall cardiovascular disease risk. It is important to check your Lp(a) levels if: - You have had a premature cardiovascular event (myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke or peripheral artery disease) before the age of 55 if you’re male, or 65 if you’re female. ???????? - You have suffered a recent cardiovascular event in the last 12 months.? ?? It is recommended that every adult undergo the Lp(a) test at least once in their lifetime. ??” Considering that cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in the Baltics, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to patient organizations: - ?irdies nepakankamumu sergan?i?j? asociacija, Lietuvos ?irdies Asociacija in Lithuania - ParSirdi.lv / Inese Maurina in Latvia and all other advocates for their unwavering support in raising awareness, improving treatment options, and enhancing the patient journey. Together, we can make a difference! ?? #LipoproteinA #CardiovascularHealth #AwarenessDay #NovartisBaltics

#AccelerateAction to close women's health gap! Over the past 200 years, the increase in life expectancy for both men and women has been a remarkable achievement. Enhancing women's health not only drives economic benefits but, more importantly, it is a matter of health equity and inclusivity. Irēna Teterina, Head of Medical Baltics and Ukraine, explains: "Only 5% of the global health burden comes from women-specific conditions, with 95% due to conditions like heart disease, colon cancer, and autoimmune diseases that affect women differently. Improving women's health boosts economic outcomes, enhances societal well-being, benefits future generations, and promotes healthy aging. Moreover, there is a moral imperative to close the women's health gap." Barriers to access persist, despite universal health coverage in the Baltic countries. A renewed focus on primary care and prevention is one important way to simultaneously improve accessibility and efficiency. #NovartisTogether #IWD2025

?? Today, on the Rare Disease Day, we stand united with the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease.* A disease is classified as rare if it affects fewer than 5 in 10,000 people.* The lack of scientific knowledge and reliable information about these diseases often leads to delays in diagnosis. ? Cell and gene therapies have the potential to treat these diseases with significant unmet medical needs. We extend our heartfelt gratitude ?? to patient organizations, advocates, and other support systems for their unwavering dedication and help in the battle against rare diseases. At #Novartis, we believe that ensuring equitable and accessible treatment for those in need is essential. We are committed to bringing new treatments and hope to rare disease patients because everyone deserves a chance at a healthier life. ?? #NovartisBaltics #RareDisease #CellTherapy #GeneTherapy #RadioligandTherapy *Source: Nguengang Wakap, S., Lambert, D.M., Olry, A. et al. Baltic team driven to address healthcare inequities to #ThriveTogether! ???? Last week, we welcomed the #proudtobeECC leadership team to Tallinn, Estonia, to discuss how we can amplify and expand collaborations with healthcare system partners to ensure patient access and improve health outcomes. Special thanks to Sweta Ghelani, Vivian Hernandez, and Nuria Jornet for your contributions! ?? Lauciuviene Ramune, Country President Baltics, shared: “It is always special to hear about the patients' journeys, and I would like to thank Dr Anu Hedman for her story, reminding us why we #ReimagineMedicine. The visit has truly inspired us and reignited our commitment to reaching ambitious goals for the years to come. Together, we are more determined than ever to push the boundaries of what is possible and to prioritize our patients in everything we do.” Karin Varrak, Country Business Head Estonia, added: “I would like to extend our gratitude to e-Estonia for showcasing a new benchmark, as every government service in Estonia is now fully digital, making?life simpler and better for our citizens. We will continue to explore innovative and digital solutions and partner with ecosystem stakeholders to ensure better access and outcomes for everyone! Thank you Kadi-Liis Veiman and Anni Lepland of the Estonian Cancer Center, Andrei B. of the Estonian Genome Center and Dmytro Fishman of the Better Medicine for sharing your inspirational work and possibilities to collaborate to improve and extend lives of patients.”
Last week I had the unique opportunity to visit the future – I traveled to Estonia and had the chance to learn from some great speakers at the e-Estonia Briefing Center! I learnt from Petra Holm about how Estonia became one of the leading?digital nations in the world by building a stable infrastructure and addressing legislative hurdles. I discovered that Estonians can complete their tax returns in less that 5 minutes and they can track when a healthcare provider is accessing their healthcare data. Then Andrei B. highlighted that 20% of Estonia’s adult population have?joined the Estonian Genome Project by contributing their genomic data. And Kadi-Liis Veiman, alongside her colleague Anni Lepland, showcased the importance of personalized preventative medicine in oncology. Lastly,?it was amazing to see how AI could copilot with radiologists to assess whether?tumors were shrinking or growing – many thanks to Dmytro Fishman for the live demonstration. ? In addition, the ECC leadership team had an incredible visit with the Baltics leadership team – we saw that their passion, resilience, growth mindset and collaboration is simply #unstoppable This team is driven to address healthcare inequities in the Baltics and make a difference by working with the ecosystem to identify patients earlier so that healthcare interventions can happen faster. Thank you as well to Dr Anu Hedman for her inspiring speech about her journey as both a breast cancer patient and a cardiologist. Your words continue to echo in my ears and inspire all of us. This Baltic team reminds me again why I continue to be #proudtobeECC and why I remain inspired to #reimaginemedicine.
