What if we shifted from a culture where validation comes from the clothes you wear to one that values the heart you have? When I was younger, I used to hide the fact that most of my clothes are thrifted because I was embarrassed at what it said about my financial upbringing. Now, I STILL thrift to save money (old habits die hard)—and the planet. And I brag to everyone about the great deals I get! ?? As we approach Black Friday, let’s consider the true cost of our purchases. ?? This past weekend, I hosted a Friendsgiving-themed movie club where our “reading” assignment was watching The True Cost, a documentary on fast fashion. The film hit us with some tough realities: -?? The fast fashion industry produces 92 million tons of waste annually and is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions—more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. -?? Many garment workers face unfair wages and unsafe conditions, with the majority earning below a living wage. -?? Over 70% of discarded clothing ends up in landfills or is incinerated, impacting both our environment and surrounding communities. Can we prioritize thoughtful, sustainable purchases this season? ?? Whether it means supporting ethical brands, repurposing what we already own, or thrifting (fun fact: many thrift stores offer 50% off on Black Friday!), we can all make a difference. ? Deciding what Nourish wants to stand for this Black Friday and Giving Tuesday has been deeply rewarding, so stay tuned…we have something special coming up! And if you haven’t already, sign up for the Nourish newsletter and get your preorder in—because with each product sold (and each newsletter signup), we plant a tree ??: nourishsupermeals.com
