Là où la droite européenne (PPE) souhaite conduire un ? agenda de dérégulation ?, libéraux et sociaux-démocrates poussent une politique de simplification qui sauvegarde la raison d’être initiale de la réglementation (CSRD, CS3D). ?? De son c?té, #France a vu bon nombre de ses propositions reprises : banque de la décarbonation, neutralité technologique ou concernant l’électrification de l’industrie ???? Elle rejoint également l'#Allemagne sur un certain nombre de propositions. ?? La réussite de ces politiques dépendra de la capacité de l’UE à se doter de moyens financiers suffisants avec une réforme du droit des aides d’Etat, en intégrant la dimension géopolitique du #gaz et en érigeant des garde-fous en matière de simplification. ??[#Housing] The Jacques Delors Energy Centre, with our advisor Thibaud Vo?ta, Ph.D., organized an online workshop focused on the skills needed at the local level to accelerate building renovation while promoting affordable housing. This event featured high-quality contributions from the City of Vienna, the European Climate Foundation, the Fondation Abbé Pierre, Eurocities, and Housing Europe, along with valuable insights from colleagues in Bulgaria. Combining ambitious renovation policies with equitable housing access remains a major challenge. Several key takeaways from this workshop deserve attention: ???The importance of data: Access to quality data remains a critical issue. Large municipalities often have resources but lack detailed knowledge of buildings and their inhabitants, while smaller cities, despite having a more granular understanding at the local level, lack the necessary means. ???Financial challenges: Significant EU funds are available, but their accessibility is hindered by the complexity of tools, initiatives, and administrative procedures. This situation particularly affects smaller municipalities, which struggle to identify and secure funding. ???A people-centered approach: Some renovation support policies do not always target the right beneficiaries. Some population groups can afford renovations on their own, while the most vulnerable remain excluded. Examples from Vienna, Sweden, and Estonia demonstrate how well-designed policies can bring unexpected benefits, including improvements in safety, health, and income levels. The findings from this workshop and other studies will be presented on April 29. We extend our warm thanks to all speakers and partners who contributed to this rich and constructive discussion. ??? [#Trade] Following Donald #Trump’s announce on slapping European goods with 25% tariff, it threatens the future of the EU and the Europeans. There is no time for moral judgements. Europeans can argue about the fallacy of Trump’s economic reasoning, speculate about domestic legal procedures, checks and balances or a market reaction that might slow him down. ?? The priority is to ensure that a strong #unity among the 27 Member States allows for a strong pushback. ? ??? The focus of our paper is to map in detail the tools available for an EU #trade_defence_strategy (see below the chart on justification, procedure, permissible measures and likelyhood) to assess the EU’s deterrence or retaliation capacity.
