This is one of my favorite takes on AI and the future of education from Sinead Bovell. School isn’t about teaching students what to think. It’s teaching them how to think. In an AI-driven world, that means working with technology, not against it. AI isn’t the future. It’s already here. Just like we learned Microsoft Office, today’s students need to master AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, along with coding assistants like GitHub Copilot, Tabnine, and Cursor. Knowing how to prompt AI will soon be as fundamental as writing an email or building a presentation. AI amplifies creativity, accelerates problem-solving, and boosts productivity. Restricting students from using it doesn’t protect their learning. It limits their potential. We talk about raising adaptable, resilient kids. Well, right now, they’re watching us to see how we are adapting to AI. Education must evolve, just like every other industry. Or we risk leaving the next generation behind.

Too many people get hired because they are just "one of those." If you're looking for a plumber you might be inclined to fill the job with the first experienced plumber you interview, without ascertaining whether he has the qualities of an outstanding plumber. Yet the difference between an ordinary plumber versus an outstanding one is huge. When reviewing any candidate's background, you must identify whether they have demonstrated themselves to be extraordinary in some way. The most obvious demonstration is outstanding performance within an outstanding peer group. If you're less than excited to hire someone for a particular job, don't do it. There are so many AI tools out there to help students. I am curious which tools are designed with intention to both help students learn and develop critical thinking skills. At the moment the responsibility to manage risks, like bias, are pushed on schools, parents and students.
