While I don't think that life is a marathon, I do know that in running and racing you can certainly learn a lot of valuable lessons.
I almost walked off the track ?? I participated in the Tracksmith Twilight 5000 series race last night. Starting off in a very fast heat of individuals I quickly found myself in the very last place. This was not unexpected as I had done virtually no 5K specific practice for the past year (in fact I hadn't stepped on a track for 11 months). My focus has been specifically and intently on the 50K I'll be doing in a month. But, it never feels good to feel behind. Walking off sounded like such a great idea when it popped into my head. At mile 2, I kicked it in, passed a couple of folks, and caught up with a friend. He could have easily kicked harder, but he had my back and we whooped and hollered through till the end. We finished together and embraced. Over the last few months, I have learned *above all else*: In life, in your career, find the people that will see your inner fire and fan it and provide kindling when you're running short. We're a week away from the Boston Athletic Association's #bostonmarathon and there's a buzz in the air (maybe it's just nerves ??) - Will the weather suck? (it has in the past) - Will my bus to the start get lost? (it's been known to happen) - Will someone beat me to the finish? (absolutely) None of that matters because you can't control any of it. You can control: - how much you smile on the course (attitude) - your race gear (raincoats, shoes, etc.) Bandit #run #notarunner #control #stoic
