The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) has issued Directive 9, mandating the adoption of the FATF Travel Rule for crypto asset transactions, effective April 30, 2025. This move is significant in aligning South Africa with global AML/CFT standards and signals further international momentum toward compliance adoption. What does this mean crypto asset service providers (CASPs) operating in South Africa? ?? Transparency requirements CASPs must securely exchange originator and beneficiary information for all transactions, regardless of transaction size, emphasizing full compliance across the board. ?? Focus on unhosted wallets Enhanced due diligence for unhosted wallets and high-risk cases reflects a growing regulatory trend. ??
