The labs of Ted Sargent and Mercouri Kanatzidis are at the forefront of a major breakthrough in perovskite #solarcell technology. First author Yi Yang and co-lead Bin Chen have developed an innovative amidinium-based protective coating that triples the stability of these cells, significantly extending their lifespan. While most research has focused on improving the stability of the perovskite material itself, this study highlights the often-overlooked role of protective layers. By enhancing the protective layer, the team was able to significantly boost the solar cells’ overall performance. This advancement brings #perovskite solar cells closer to real-world applications, paving the way for more sustainable and efficient energy solutions. #sustainability #greenenergy Learn how this work is shaping the future of renewable energy.

Richard Silverman’s promising ALS drug, NU-9, has received an additional $7.3 million from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) to investigate its potential effectiveness for other neurodegenerative diseases. Unlike treatments that target symptoms of specific conditions, NU-9 addresses the underlying mechanisms of disease. This gives scientists hope that it could be effective against the shared pathways driving multiple neurodegenerative disorders—an innovative step toward solutions for aging-related illnesses. #ALSResearch #NeurodegenerativeDiseases #Chemistry #MedicalBreakthroughs #NU9 https://lnkd.in/gb2BmuVK

Recent research from Xiaoyu Zhang and The Zhang Lab: 'A platform for mapping reactive cysteines within the immunopeptidome' This paper pioneers a chemical biology platform that enables the use of small molecules to target peptide antigens—a task previously unachieved. Potential impact: ?? Development of a platform for mapping reactive cysteines on MHC-I-bound peptide antigens. ?? Demonstration that?cysteines on MHC-I-bound antigens exhibit various degrees of reactivity, with some being druggable by small molecules. ?? Demonstration that targeting reactive cysteines with a bispecific molecule can manipulate immune cell function by inducing antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis.
