The safety of drinking water is a concern for more than half of the global population.
?
According to the Lloyd's Register Foundation 2019 #WorldRiskPoll, powered by The Gallup World Poll, 52% of people across 141 countries anticipate serious harm from their drinking water.
?
The research also uncovered that 14% of individuals reported either experiencing or knowing someone who experienced serious harm from drinking water in the past two years. The range of self-reported harm varies dramatically, from 0.9% in Singapore to an alarming 54% in Zambia.
?
This data has been further explored in a new academic paper titled “Self-reported anticipated harm from drinking water across 141 countries,” published in Nature Magazine, which sheds light on a critical gap in the measurement of drinking water safety perceptions. These perceptions significantly influence health-related behaviors, including how water is used and valued.
?
The paper demonstrates that Water is about much more than just the presence of water infrastructure. The authors Sera Young, Joshua D. Miller,?Chad Staddon, Aaron Salzberg,?Julius Lucks,?W?ndi BRUINE DE BRUIN have shown that how people experience their water (if they suspect they may be harmed by it), can be very different from objective indicators of safety.
Experiences matter, and they shape all kinds of consumer behaviours.?Explore the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/dnv8-xKf
