We know that nurses are often our patients’ first line of support during their health journeys, so we aim to be there for our nurses just as much. Our Nurse Residency Program helps new nurses during their first year on the job at Northwestern Medicine through special training and mentorship. When we care for our nurses, they can better care for you. #NMBetter

Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President, Quality, Northwestern Memorial HealthCare

In my role as chief nursing officer at Northwestern Medicine, I have been encouraging our nurses to share feedback about their work experience and ask me questions. To make this fun and easy for nurses across the health system, we launched a Tell Us More tiny mic campaign. Here’s just a bit of the thoughtful feedback we received: “I feel like one of the biggest challenges for nurses now is the increasing acuity of the patients that we see coming into the hospital.” – Tamara Ayala, BSN, RN, Staff Nurse, Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital “As technology advances and Northwestern continues to grow, I would like to see more time-consuming tasks become more efficient.” – Mimi Wong, BSN, RN, Clinical Nurse, Northwestern Memorial Hospital “Some of the biggest opportunities I see in the nursing profession today is the ability to further your education, or change units or specialties based on your desire.” – Kobe Nguyen, RN, AND, Staff Nurse, Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital Thank you to all the nurses who stepped up to the microphone to share their thoughts! Getting feedback and questions is the first step in opening dialogue within an organization. The next step is answering transparently and acting on what we hear.? I look forward to keeping the conversation going so we can make Northwestern Medicine better for everyone, including our world-class nursing staff.? #TinyMic #NMNursing #NMBetter

  • Retinal imaging could offer insightful perspectives on the impact of long COVID-19. A recent study from the Northwestern Medicine Comprehensive COVID-19 Center shows that patients with long COVID have fewer blood vessels in the back of their eyes compared to healthy individuals. Scientists believe this may be related to decreased blood circulation in the brain, which may explain why people with long COVID have neurologic symptoms like brain fog. Building on these findings, another study will look at retinal imaging as a way to diagnose, manage and predict the progression of long COVID. This research aims to identify the cause of long COVID. To date, the Comprehensive COVID-19 Center has cared for nearly 3,000 people with long COVID from 44 states. For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/erWdi_WA. #NMBetter

  • Northwestern Medicine is able to provide better medicine to our patients thanks to the incredible support from generous corporations. Earlier this week, we had the chance to thank many representatives of these companies at a special reception at the United Center. Guests heard exciting updates about the future of Northwestern Medicine, connected with health system leaders, toured the stadium and had some fun on the court. A sincere thank you to all of those who support our mission to make people better by making medicine better. #NMBetter
