The panel provided valuable insights into how they secured their roles, tips for job interviews, advice on applying to PhD programs, and discussed strategies for negotiating job offers. Synthetic biology relies on lessons from biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, and the social sciences. Training future synthetic biologists to understand concepts from all of those fields requires a unique framework, one that focuses not just on how research can be done but why research should be done. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Central US Synthetic Biology Workshop 2024. The event, organized by Northwestern, brought together synthetic biology researchers and companies in the Central US to identify opportunities for collaboration across academia, industry, and government. MBP alums Dr. Bradley Biggs (MBP '14) and Hunter Brown (MBP '21) were in attendance at the event.
