Today, Microsoft announced Majorana 1, the world’s first Quantum Processing Unit (QPU) powered by topological qubits. So far, we have already placed eight topological qubits on the chip that is designed to house one million. A million qubits gives us the ability to solve of the world’s hardest problems. Read more from Chetan Nayak: https://lnkd.in/gF6xVs-c While the built-in protection of topological qubits simplifies quantum error correction (QEC), we still need reliable QEC to get us to a fault-tolerant quantum supercomputer. Today, our team also published a roadmap to show our path from single-qubit devices to arrays that enable quantum error correction where our custom QEC codes can reduce overhead roughly tenfold compared to the previous state of the art approach. This dramatic reduction means that our scalable system can be built from fewer physical qubits and has the potential to run at a faster clock speed. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gJUEuAmt
