Position Description: Board of Directors, Northwest Osteopathic Medical Foundation The Board of Directors consists of 12 individuals from across the states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington who are committed to promoting the unique qualities of osteopathic medicine through public awareness and physician education. While the majority of the Board are osteopathic physicians (DOs), we also actively recruit professionals outside the osteopathic profession to help us with our mission, programs, and board governance issues. Board positions are strictly volunteer, but the staff has an Executive Director to manage the day-to-day operation of the Foundation. The Board has an Executive Committee and Internal Affairs and External Affairs Teams. Every Board member is asked to participate on one team, which meets quarterly throughout the year. The Board meets twice a year including a full Saturday meeting each fall in Portland or Seattle. So the time commitment is five, 90 minute Board / Team meetings and one full Saturday each year. Preparation for each meeting is approximately 60 minutes to review material provided about one week before each meeting. The Internal Affairs Team is responsible for monitoring the Foundation’s investments, budget, technology, and human resources. Quarterly meetings include a report from the Foundation’s investment advisor.? The External Affairs Team is responsible for assisting with fundraising and overseeing Foundation programs. Our main program is tuition scholarships for osteopathic medical students and we work to raise about $50,000 a year to supplement spending from our investments.? As almost all of our meetings are on the zoom platform, Board members must be comfortable with using this technology as well as accessing board resources through our website using the dropbox platform.? Board members are required to be a sustaining members of the Foundation which is $100 per year and are encouraged to financially support our scholarship program through our monthly donation program. Interested individuals should contact Executive Director David Tate at 503.263.7878 or [email protected].
关于我们
Appropriately enough, the Northwest Osteopathic Medical Foundation was "born" at a hospital. With the sale of Eastmoreland Hospital in Portland, Oregon, the hospital’s physicians and board of directors made a commitment to embark on a unique mission: To establish a charitable foundation that would support osteopathic medical education, charitable giving, and programs to improve long-term health for the Pacific Northwest in perpetuity. The Foundation was established in 1989 and over the years built a proud legacy of doing just that - with a mainstay of programs and services supported by the osteopathic medical communities of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. Our flagship program is our tuition assistance scholarships. We annually award between $90,000 and $110,000 in scholarship funds to osteopathic medical school students. Awardees are selected on a number of criteria, but a commitment to osteopathic principles and practicing in the Northwest are very important factors. Another important program we support is the continuing medical education programs of the five northwest state osteopathic medical associations. Our sponsorship of these conferences helps keep the cost reasonable for primary care practitioners in more rural areas of the states we serve. The Foundation is committed to developing leadership training and experiences for medical students and DOs who are interested in becoming more involved in health policy at the county, state, and federal levels. The Foundation provides an online/social media presence with weekly health and wellness blogs focusing on the principles of osteopathic medicine that support mind, body, and spirit. We provide public presentations on osteopathic medicine, osteopathic medical education, and wellness programs with an osteopathic approach.
