Thanks to everyone who came to Home Sweet Home this year! We had our largest turnout yet, and we are thrilled to announce that we reached our fundraising goals. The room was lively, energy was high, and the generosity was flowing. A big thanks to Walsh Construction Co., the presenting sponsor of the event, and all of the chocolatiers and sponsors who made this event successful!

Creating opportunity through housing
关于我们
NHA's mission is to create opportunity through housing. We build and rehabilitate affordable housing for Oregonians earning low incomes including seniors, families and people with special needs. NHA also operates the Annie Ross House shelter for homeless families with children and provide rapid re-housing and stabilization services through our HomeBase program. Home is a place of safety and retreat, a place where family and community can grow. For some Oregonians with low incomes, having a place to call home is out of reach. Low wages or fixed incomes combined with the high cost of housing forces these families to choose between rent, utilities, nutritious food, medications and other basic necessities. NHA is working to provide new opportunities through quality affordable housing.

A lot of what we imagine in terms of affordable housing is urban, but the need also greatly exists in rural spaces. NHA is proud to have existing properties in places such as Warrenton, Ontario, Hermiston, Florence, and Hines, (and more!) and now we're working on bringing new housing to Sisters. We're grateful and excited to be partnering with The City of Sisters, LRS Architects, Inc., CS Construction, Family Action Network, and local agricultural partners in planning a 40-unit workforce housing development in Sisters. The amazing growth in tourism and hospitality that Sisters has experienced over the last several years has led to locals finding it difficult to continue living there; a story not uncommon across many of Oregon’s recreation hot spots. When a workforce can no longer live in the place its serving, it's important for people to come together in search of a solution, which is what the community of Sisters is doing. We're grateful for the opportunity to join and serve their community through affordable housing options. Kudos to our own Clayton Crowhurst for working so diligently and passionately on this project! https://lnkd.in/gHXrpkDn

NHA staff had fun cleaning up High Rocks Park in Gladstone this morning! We were excited to participate as part of SOLVE Oregon's annual Beach and River post-summer clean up. Thanks to everyone who came out and to all those participating in clean ups around Oregon to keep our natural waterways healthy!
Northwest Housing Alternatives team members joined the efforts of SOLVE for their annual beach and river clean up. We were at High Rocks on the Clackamas River. With natural potholes and smooth boulders, it was a reminder of the power and patience of natural forces - a humbling moment and glad to spend time giving back. https://lnkd.in/gV5RiY9u #affordablehousing, #communitydevelopment, #cleanrivers

Last night was an exciting evening for NHA! We launched a new program that includes two tiered giving options - the Impact Circle and Housing Stability Partners. Joining at either tier offers stable, highly impactful support for our organization. They make a tremendous difference for our organization’s capacity and ability to reach more Oregonians in need of stable housing. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gGfzFsFb To our amazing supporters who joined us last night, thank you! It's only with your dedicated and generous support that we are able to continue this necessary and life-changing work. Every contribution to NHA fuels our work and provides capacity to the organization to continue serving Oregonians through affordable housing, emergency shelter, and support services. With your support, we can continue reaching more individuals in need of stable and safe housing. Special thanks to Kelsey Heilman, NHA's Board Vice President, for sharing her passion for NHA’s work and why she is such a dedicated supporter. We are getting ready for back to school at Northwest Housing Alternatives, and that means a new start to our education program! Did you know we have afterschool programming for students in five of our properties in the Portland Metro area? This year, we're expanding to add hundreds of new kids to the program at one of our largest family properties in East Portland! The Supporting Educational Success program provides regular afterschool enrichment and homework support, connections with guidance counselors and school administrators, and school supply support for students. We are excited to launch the fourth year of this program and meet all the new kids who will be participating in the 2024-25 school year.

NHA staff have been reading The Color of Emotional Intelligence by Farah Harris, MA, LCPC as part of our Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) Book Club. This spring, NHA's leadership staff read through the book and discussed the concepts in relation to our work, and last week NHA staff met to talk about it as well, kicking off a meaningful discussion about how to best support emotional intelligence in the workplace. As part of our commitment to equity, NHA seeks to provide opportunities for staff to delve deeper into how we can better show up for each other and the people we serve. This includes being mindful of others' experiences, identities, trauma, and mental health. The book club had so much to say about it that we'll be meeting again next month to talk more! Thanks to the REDI Committee for hosting these gatherings and creating this space. #equity #DEIwork #emotionalintelligence #bookclub

"On behalf of the NHA Program Team, we want to thank Andrew Pinches for his time with us here at NHA.?His dedication to the Youth After School Program has been invaluable." - Natalie Thompson, Director of Programs and Equity “During his time with us, Andrew was able to grow the NHA Educational Success Program. With Andrew providing support to over 130 students, this year resulted in our highest and most consistent student turnout in our 4 years of programming.?His excitement for learning provided a welcoming environment for youth to explore robotics, physics, art, and much more.” (Natalie Thompson) ? Andrew himself reflects on that "seeing students’ faces light up at (his) arrival, watching the students grow, observing their creativity with projects, witnessing their investment in the Isaac Newton series (he) designed, and having students ask (him), 'What are we doing next week?!' with a grin on their face" has brought him much joy over the past year. ? NHA Resident Services Team Lead & Youth Programming Coordinator, Michael Yanez, shared, "Andrew’s positive demeanor, honesty, and passion has left a lasting mark on our kids, program and organization at large." Michael and Natalie had so many wonderful remarks to share on Andrew's presence, work, and lasting contributions to NHA. Andrew's own reflection illuminates the positivity of his presence; he shared that "working with the students living at some of NHA’s Metro Area properties has been a blessing, and (he is) grateful that (he has) been able to witness the impacts of (his) work on their lives this year." ? The NHA Team will greatly miss Andrew and we wish him all the best on his next adventure.?Please join us in thanking Andrew for all he has done this year! ??
