What happens when you combine a smart, successful entrepreneur with a big heart? ?? Northwest Battle Buddies provides service dogs to combat veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD.) After gifting more than 250 dogs to veterans (that would cost $25,000 per dog), they have not lost a single vet to suicide. These highly trained animals are very carefully matched with their owners based on their needs, including: ?? if the vet has a family ?? if they are working ?? if they have any disabilities, and more. We received this anecdote recently from one of our Veterans, Derek, and had to share! Before Derek was paired with his service dog, Cora, he found himself withdrawn and disconnected from loved ones and especially strangers. He had become defensive and closed off. But with Cora by his side, everything changed. From icebreaker moments at work to a simple “How are YOU and Cora doing today?”—Derek felt happiness and connection returning. Suddenly, he actually felt like he mattered as much as Cora mattered to him. ? ? During this time, the Employee of the Month was a fun little joke he tossed around with his co-workers and it resulted in this "unofficial" Employee of the Month photo of battle buddy Cora. We love it!!?
