No fluoroscopy, no problem. Electrophysiologist Dr. Mark Abrams from Lenox Hill Hospital recently performed the hospital’s first zero fluoroscopy 4D Intracardiac Electrocardiography (ICE) with Watchman implant using Biosense Webster’s NuVision device. This 4D ICE technology allows for intraprocedural visualization of the left atrial appendage during left atrial appendage closure procedures. The goal is to limit complications, reduce lengths of stay and allow the procedure to be performed by a single operator.

Our first commercial case was performed today at Lenox Hill Hospital by Stavros Mountantonakis, MD, MBA, director of electrophysiology. The all-in-one catheter features dual-energy ablation using pulsed field and radiofrequency energies as well as high-density mapping functionality. The Affera Mapping and Ablation System enables our physicians to customize treatment based on a patient’s needs during an ablation procedure, using different energy sources and mapping capabilities to correct fast, abnormal heart rhythms – providing a life-changing solution for people with AFib. This marks a new era in cardiac ablation care at Northwell Health and is an exciting step forward in the treatment of atrial fibrillation – the most common atrial arrhythmia affecting more than 60 million people worldwide. Fantastic job by the structural heart and electrophysiology teams at the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital at North Shore University Hospital on successfully performing a Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement (TTVR) using the now commercially available Edwards Lifesciences EVOQUE tricuspid replacement valve. This catheter-based, minimally invasive procedure was recently approved by the FDA to give patients with symptomatic tricuspid valve regurgitation an alternative treatment option to conventional open-heart surgery. The complex case featured a combined team effort between Northwell Health System Director of Structural Heart Disease Dr. Bruce Rutkin, System Director of Structural Heart Echo Dr. Elana Koss, Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Jenny Yu and System Director of Electrophysiology Dr. Larry Epstein.
