?? OVARIAN TISSUE FREEZING This has been a long time coming (read: pre-COVID) and I am so proud to announce that Northwell Health is the first health system on Long Island (and only one of a few in the tri-state area) to offer ovarian tissue freezing. This groundbreaking service provides a vital fertility preservation option for individuals undergoing treatments, such as for cancer, that may affect future fertility. It is most often used for young girls with cancer, or women who don’t have time to do egg freezing because they need to start cancer treatment right away. Through this procedure, we can safely remove and preserve ovarian tissue, allowing the possibility of reimplantation for fertility at a later date. We are committed to expanding access to fertility care and giving our patients (and their families) choice for their reproductive future, providing a fertility preservation option when there previously was none. Fighting cancer is incredibly challenging and can have lasting effects on a patient’s life beyond their actual cancer diagnosis. While there are many wonderful paths to parenthood, having a biological child is a profound experience that many people hope for, and I’m honored we can play a role in making that dream a reality. It’s not everyday that your boss gets invited to the White House!! I am so proud of Kristen Beyer and our entire team for all that we have created and the patients lives that we have impacted and continue to assist. Every thing we are doing is to make the journey easier for them!! We proudly rooted Kristen and Janelle on!! Northwell Health Cancer Care Direct made it to the White House today. So proud of Janelle who gave her perspective of being a nurse navigator caring for oncology patients. She represented Northwell and her colleagues so well and they cheered her on from New York. Two years ago, Jeneen's birthday took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She saw gastroenterologist Demetrios Tzimas, MD, who ordered an MRI. The scan showed something suspicious on her pancreas, so Dr. Tzimas performed a biopsy, which confirmed what he suspected: stage 1 pancreatic cancer. Dr. Tzimas referred Jeneen to Elliot Newman, MD, chief of surgical oncology at Lenox Hill Hospital, who performed a complex Whipple procedure. “I’ve come through a difficult time, and it’s my time to shine,” says Jeneen. We were honored to host the Inaugural Pancreatic Cancer Consortium with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory where NYU Langone Health, Mount Sinai Health System, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Columbia University Irving Medical Center joined forces to share their knowledge and research for the best patient care. Matthew Weiss, MD and David Tuveson, MD, PhD share their hope for the future. Together, we're working towards a future where pancreatic cancer is no longer a devastating diagnosis. #RaiseHealth
