Next stop on our Survivor Center tour is the office of our Marketing & Communications Director, Alex! Also known by her fellow staff members as "avid coffee drinker", or "the social media girl". Alex graduated from Pennsylvania State University with her Bachelor's in Business Marketing. She spent 3 years prior serving in the social work field only to find that her true passion for advocacy was not being met to its fullest. In God's perfect timing, Alex was led to NSI through prayer. Prior roles serving in intellectual disability services, women's shelters and working with local businesses to define brand identity have prepared her to represent North Star and continue to advocate for each resident that walks through our doors. She looks forward to connecting with the local community and sharing NSI's mission and vision across every platform.? #NSI #SocialMedia #Marketing #Communications #MeetTheTeam

It’s Social Worker Month which is the perfect introduction to our next office stop on the Survivor Center staff tour ??Stephanie is our on-site Case Manager, BSW. She obtained her degree from Millersville University. Stephanie’s previous experience as a law enforcement social work intern expanded her existing passion to provide justice and advocacy within her community. God orchestrated a perfectly timed path of open and closed doors, ultimately leading her to NSI's Survivor Center. Stephanie's gentle spirit and heart for serving others make her a safe space for survivors to process and be encouraged in their growth. This month (especially) we want to recognize her and all she does at North Star to advocate for each resident that walks through our doors! Here’s what keeps Stephanie inspired in her role: “I enjoy all the tangible things I get to assist our residents with on a daily basis. Being able to give them the tools and support that they need to be able to learn and advocate for themselves is the true reward.” If you know a social worker be sure to tell them how much you appreciate the work they do within the community. #SWMonth2024 #EmpoweringSocialWorkers #SocialWorkMonth #NASW #NSI #EndHumanTrafficking

Our next stop through the Survivor Center is the office of North Star's Executive Director, Melinda Clark. Melinda joined North Star's team with more than 15 years’ experience in leadership roles across a variety of non-profit sectors. Along with an MBA in Strategic Leadership from Messiah University, she has earned credentials in Christian non-profit leadership, trauma-informed care, sexual risk avoidance education, and cross-cultural communication. Experiences in ministry settings, educational contexts, and organizational initiatives have also equipped her to lead with unique insight and resilience. She is wired to advocate for vulnerable populations and invest in each person in ways that allow them to flourish. Their stories matter. After growing up in Argentina and spending some years in the Midwest, God moved Melinda along with her husband, five fabulous children—almost all of whom are now adults—and their dog Zoe from Colorado to Pennsylvania six years ago.
