Two best friends, two new knees! Jack and Jeff have been inseparable since they met in a Queens softball league back in 1972. So when Jeff decided it was time for a knee replacement, Jack didn’t just cheer him on—he booked his own surgery on the same day. With the expertise of Dr. Jonathan Danoff and our incredible orthopedic team, they felt confident every step of the way. "The whole orthopedic team deserves praise because we both felt supported all the way through this, from checking in for surgery to going to rehab to having physical therapists come to the house. When Maggie Goodman, a sixth-grade special needs teacher, saw a Facebook post about her colleague Thomas Coveney’s need for a kidney, she didn’t hesitate—she got tested. A perfect match, she donated her kidney, giving Thomas, an eighth-grade social studies teacher, a new lease on life. Their life-changing surgeries took place at North Shore University Hospital, home to the Northwell Transplant Institute. The institute performed 207 adult kidney transplants in 2024 and is ranked No. 1 in New York state for three-year patient survival, based on the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients reports. Led by expert transplant surgeons Dr. Ahmed Fahmy and Dr. Aaron Winnick, the team continues to set the standard for exceptional transplant care.
