Hear from one of our STAR graduates and current National Grid employee, Mekhi: 'Coming here, seeing something I was passionate about, and having the proper support system - the proper teachers and staff - to help uplift me let me see it's worth putting in the work and the hours to provide lots of opportunities in the future. Northland impacted my life; it changed for the better." - Mekhi Yearwood ?? We're honored to support students like Mekhi, and YOU can join the movement too! #BUFFALO ?? Just 1 day remains in the #TearThePaperCeiling challenge! Please #ShareThisPost to help us put our city on the world stage with our own billboard in Times Square. ????????? When sharing, be sure to tag Opportunity@Work (LinkedIn username @opportunity-work) and use hashtags #TearThePaperCeiling & #OneofMillions. --- At Northland Workforce Training Center we are committed to uplifting STARs (workers Skilled Through Alternative Routes) through our involvement in the #TearThePaperCeiling campaign created by Opportunity@Work and the Ad Council. Hear from one of our STAR graduates, Jonisha Scott! ?? When Jonisha Scott received a quote to rewire her home’s outdated electrical, she got a dose of sticker shock along with it. 'He told me it was going to be $20K, and I thought, ‘What? That’s a down payment on a new house! I decided that instead of putting that money into the electric, I was going to put it into my education, so I can do the work myself as well as help out people in my community who need electrical work.” An internet search and a few on-site tours later, Scott enrolled here at Northland Workforce Training Center (NWTC) in January 2022. She graduated with her associate degree through the Electrical Construction and Maintenance Electrician program, which is offered through Alfred State College - SUNY College of Technology at NWTC. Jonisha now works HERE at Northland Workforce Training Center as an electrical instructor with Alfred State! Talk about a full-circle moment! ?? ?? We're honored to support and uplift our graduates like Jonisha, and YOU can join the movement too! SHARE this post and help put Buffalo on the world stage with our very own billboard in Times Square! Tag Opportunity@Work and use hashtags #TearThePaperCeiling and #OneofMillions.
