At this year’s annual breakfast, we honored Karen Kinne-Herman, who is a true champion of NFHC, with the inaugural Karen Kinne-Herman Legacy Award! Karen is beloved to Northland. She was instrumental in securing funding and volunteers to make our building come to life. Over the years Karen has been a mentor to agency executive leadership and a steadfast supporter of Northland’s services. Her unwavering support makes her a trusted ally and friend and this version of NFHC would not exist without her. We were also honored to have survivor speaker Layla share her experience as a DV survivor. Layla’s courage moved everyone in the room. Thank you to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, Board members, and staff who made this program possible!

We had the pleasure of meeting with G6 Hospitality LLC last week. This is a small but passionate group of folks that truly care about ending trafficking and CSE. Their commitment to advancing technology to end trafficking at their properties is commendable. Watching the level of support, they provided to law enforcement and property owners across the country throughout the day was astounding. They are making communities across the country safer with the help of partners like Nate Boulter who was also able to join us for the day and help paint a picture of what trafficking looks like in Northern AZ and how the community is working to end this horrific crime type. The Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth is hosting a groundbreaking System's Change Symposium with national and global speakers on Oct. 22 or 23, 2024! The virtual community event is free to individuals who work or live in Coconino County, with a small charge to people outside the County. To begin Domestic Violence Awareness month Northland staff were able to join our partners as the Flagstaff City Council declared October Domestic Violence Awareness Month! The City of Flagstaff will also be flying the DV awareness flag all month long. We will be tabling throughout the month and sharing other ways that the public can show their support. #dvam2024 #lightazpurple

NFHC staff were able to attend the annual kick-off campaign for the United Way of Northern Arizona today! UWNA is a long-term partner - consistently supportive of our programs, they help us leverage federal funding, and they are there when we experience emergencies. It was a morning of celebration as we heard of the partnership between UWNA, Northern Arizona University, and Coconino Community College! Our youth's educational needs are being addressed at such an early age, relieving stress from both children and parents, while creating a community where youth can thrive.

Yesterday we joined the Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff in addition to many of our non-profit partners to celebrate the annual grant awards. Our funding partners have become mentors, supporters, and family! Our sincerest thanks to ACF of Flagstaff, Cambium Wealth & Legacy Strategies, Ernest & Evelyn Chilson Fund, Forest Highlands Foundation, Giel Charitable Fund, Lyons Family Foundation, McClanahan Family Unrestricted Fund, & the Molly and Joseph Herman Foundation.?

Executive Director, Shaleen Seward and Deputy Director, Heather Marcy were able to attend the City of Flagstaff’s recognition of Chief Dan Musselman who is retiring after 30 years of service. Chief Musselman was an NFHC board member, has responded to countless calls for service at our building, brought pizza and snacks to our staff, and was always willing to work with us to solve barriers.?We will miss you Chief, job well done!?
