Taking a moment to pause and reflect on the past few weeks and the incredible people I’ve had a chance to engage with through organizations LMCU has supported. I took a trip up North to visit our northern branches. The Northern Michigan Woman Magazine & Community Spring Connection Series was a lovely evening of connections, community and relaxation. I also toured Grand Traverse Industries and Munson Healthcare to see the work these organizations do up close and in person. Last week LMCU participated in the Financial Reality Fair as volunteers and engaged with students throughout the experience. I would have loved to have something like this when I was in high school! I also had a chance to celebrate the accomplishments of Michigan youth through the Boys and Girls Club and demonstrate their resilience in action as we briefly evacuated the room during a tornado warning. Finally, our?Hutt Luncheon was a beautiful way to recognize the contributions of hardworking students who wrote essays in response to the following question: What would you like to see celebrated by the time you are 90? It’s been a great month in community – and April is not even over yet!
Love hearing this! This is why we do what we do!! ??
A few weeks ago I was reading about a local business woman in Northern Michigan Woman Magazine & Community. Only a few months into my new endeavor, I am always eager to connect with individuals who operate in similar and/or complimentary spaces in the local market. So, I cold email this woman. She responds and graciously agrees to a coffee. The two hours we chatted for flew by and this one outreach has, in 3 weeks time, radiated in a way that has led me to 17 new connections / coffees, invites to 2 events, and a lead. In this business climate and in a world that is increasingly in need of connection, togetherness, and a focus on social health, I could not be more grateful for this woman (and my own courage to just reach out). It doesn't take much to make a difference for someone. Check your LinkedIn messages and emails (if you can sift through the junk) to see if you can help someone, especially someone looking for work or guidance. I know that I am personally eager to repay this kindness. Human connection - what we can do for one another - is one of the few remaining AI-proof aspects of life. We can probably all work a little harder to embrace connectivity in ways that serve and aid others. We may not be able to foresee what will come of it for others or ourselves, but isn't the chance of something great worth it? Thanks Beth Melcher. #together #socialhealth
