Time is running out! After legislators return to #Lansing from fall recess, there will be only a few session days left to protect our tipped wage system and make common-sense changes to the #EarnedSickTimeAct. There are currently two bills that have been introduced that address these key issues. Please reach out to your elected officials and let them know how these changes will impact your business.

Our mission is to advocate for the needs and amplify the voice of northern Michigan businesses. The Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance is a coalition of 18 chambers and economic development organizations from across northern Michigan. The Alliance partnership works from the premise that many legislative issues impact the U.P. and northern Lower Peninsula in similar ways. Our coalition exists to advocate for rural northern Michigan and move forward rural-centric business policy. Focus is given to supporting the success of existing northern Michigan businesses, developing and attracting a talented workforce in northern Michigan, and maximizing the competitiveness of the rural northern Michigan business environment. The Alliance includes nine Partners, two Supporting Partners, seven Associate Partners, and over 7,000 member businesses from across northern Michigan.

Exciting investments from the Michigan Outdoor Innovation Fund. This is the first seed-stage venture fund in the Upper Peninsula and rural Michigan, it is managed by?our partners InvestUP , a private sector-led economic development organization focused on driving economic prosperity across the Upper Peninsula.
In less than a year, the Michigan Outdoor Innovation Fund has invested nearly $1 million in eight Michigan-based startups that are redefining sustainability, accessibility, and innovation, including its latest portfolio additions Student Athlete Score, Inc., Hercules Electric Mobility, Electric Outdoors, KUHMUTE ?, and LIVAQ. These visionary companies are developing cutting-edge technologies from sustainable EV camping solutions to transformative marine propulsion systems, representing the future of Michigan’s outdoor economy. As an Alliance, we met with our regional legislators to discuss the upcoming changes to Michigan's paid sick leave and minimum wage laws. While we support fair labor practices and retaining talent, the changes will pose serious risks to small businesses in our rural region. We are calling on the legislature to put forth solutions as soon as possible that protect both employees, and employers.
