Today, we remember and honor the life of Dr. Marilu María D. Galván, a beloved leader and educator in our community. As Executive Director of el Centro Cívico Cultural Dominicano, Dr. Galván dedicated her life to promoting Dominican culture and heritage. She was instrumental in the campaign to honor Juan Pablo Duarte with the statue at Canal and Sixth Avenue in NYC. An educator at heart, Dr. Galván taught from kindergarten to college, inspiring countless students with her passion for learning and her belief in the power of education. Her legacy of strength, compassion, and dedication will continue to inspire us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time. We are thrilled to announce the completion of our latest affordable housing cooperative project at 21 Arden Street. After a decade-long wait, 12 families have finally returned to their beloved community, transitioning from tenants to proud homeowners! This 15-unit project represents a significant step forward in providing accessible housing and building generational wealth for our families. April is recognized as #NationalVolunteerAppreciationMonth, and we would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere appreciation to all of our volunteers. In the past year, our volunteers have collectively dedicated more than 1,500 hours of service, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of the 14,000 individuals we serve each year. Our volunteers have been instrumental in various activities, such as serving on our board of directors and our advisory board, speaking at career panels, and lending a hand at our food pantry, tax preparation services, and other events throughout the year.
