#Repost Hispanic Society Museum and Library ??? We are thrilled to announce the opening of “Adriana Varej?o: Don’t Forget, We Come From the Tropics,” a new exhibition of contemporary art produced in partnership with @gagosian featuring works from the acclaimed “Plate” series by @adrianavarejao. Part of the Hispanic Society’s “Collection in Dialogue” initiative, Varej?o’s works are placed in conversation with a selection of historic ceramics from the Hispanic Society’s collection, many of which have not been on view for nearly a decade. The exhibition extends out onto Audubon Terrace, where Varej?o has created a monumental sculptural intervention in which an Amazonian anaconda coils itself around Anna Hyatt Huntington’s 1927 statue of El Cid. Addressing the complex interrelationship between humanity and nature and challenging the distinction between fine arts and crafts, the exhibition adds a fresh perspective to the Hispanic Society’s renowned collection of art from the Hispanic world. “Adriana Varej?o: Don’t Forget, We Come From the Tropics” is on view through June 22, 2025, Thursday to Sunday, noon to 5pm. Stay tuned for more information about programming related to the exhibition. #NYCMuseum #ArtHistory #ExhibitionOpening ??: @alfonfon_lozano

#Repost NYC Department of Cultural Affairs ??? ??? Attention artists! This is your LAST CALL to apply to design two monuments we’re commissioning through the #SheBuiltNYC initiative: one monument honoring jazz icon Billie Holiday in Queens, and another honoring public health pioneer Dr. Helen Rodríguez-Trías in the Bronx. Did you know that, in a city as diverse as New York City, only FIVE out of about 150 monuments on public land honor women? Our monuments reflect our values and tell a story of who we are, and for too long, women have been left out of this story. The Billie Holiday monument will be placed at @JamaicaArtsCenter in Queens, close to the clubs where she performed and the neighborhood she called home. The monument for Dr. Helen Rodríguez-Trías will be located at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, where Dr. Trías served as the head of the pediatrics department. For both projects, which will be commissioned through our #PercentForArtNYC program, we’re is seeking artists to create three dimensional, sculptural artworks made from a durable material, such as bronze. Last year, @CMLaurieCumbo and @NYCMayor announced the revival of four projects under She Built NYC, a first step toward telling a more complete story of our city and the people who built it through our public monuments. In addition to monuments for Dr. Helen Rodríguez-Trías and Billie Holiday, we’re also honoring local legend Katherine Walker on Staten Island and Civil Rights pioneer Elizabeth Jennings Graham in Manhattan. These two projects are still ongoing and artist calls for these monuments will remain OPEN for the time being. ?? Submit details of your interest and samples of your past work by Monday, April 7, 2025 to be considered. Visit NYCulture.submittable.com (link in bio) to apply!! #NYCulture #SheBuiltNYC #PercentForArtNYC
