On Tuesday night Judith Avila, co-author of Code Talkers, presented the story of Chester Nez and his cohort of code talkers during WWII. It was fascinating. Imagine going directly from Tuba Boarding School to Marine Boot Camp in San Diego to the open ended assignment of using Navajo to create a code to save the world from Nazi fascism? That was the gig for 29 17 and 18 year old Navajo boys in may of 1942. 50th Annual Holiday Dinner Presented by the NAU Choral Union Friday, December 6 at 7 PM Saturday , December 7 at 7 PM Sunday December 8 at 3 PM Join NAU's five choral ensembles for our 50th annual festive Holiday Concerts in the du Bois Ballroom. Our singers are joined by the Harold M. Harter Memorial Handbell Choir and Holiday Brass Quintet for cherished carols and wintertide music from around the world. Warm up with caroling and Mexican spiced ponche 30 minutes before each performance. Friday and Saturday concerts include a locally inspired, three-course Southwestern meal, and we invite our alumni to join us in singing “Still, Still, Still” by candlelight to close our concert. Seating & Stage We present this year’s concert as a single stage setup. For Friday and Saturday concerts, tables 12, 18, 23, and 28 are closest to all the choirs. Note that tables 5, 10, 16, 21, 26, 32, 37, and 43 may be at the right and left of the tables, rather than the back of the ballroom. Sunday matinee attendees have the option of purchasing priority reserved seating. General seating will be reserved in the front rows for these ticket holders. Sundays' performans does not include a dinner. Prelude & Mexican Spiced Ponche Wassail and Mexican spiced ponche is offered in the ballroom approximately 30 minutes before each performance. Music prelude in the ballroom begins 30 minutes before each performance. Dinner Menu Southwestern Salad served with mixed greens, Aztec corn, black beans, tomatoes, onions, and cheese bread crisps.
