  • We wrapped up a major summer event season at the Ethics Institute?with our faculty overseeing seven different workshops and programs! ?9-week, NSF-funded?Graduate Summer Training Program to Expand the AI and Data Ethics Research Community, led by?Kathleen Creel?and?John Basl ? 5-day, NEH-funded Northeast Workshop to Learn About Multicultural Philosophy (NEWLAMP) Program, led by?Getty L. Lustila?and Candice Delmas. ? 2-week?Intelligence, Data, Ethics, and Society (IDEAS) Program, led by?Sina Fazelpour?and?Marina DiMarco ??10-day, Mozilla funded?Summer Training Program on Responsible Computing Education, led by?Vance R. and?Meica Magnani ·?2-day,?Ethnographers of Orthodoxy Workshop Event, Led by Dr. Sarah Riccardi-Swartz ??5-day,?Philosophy In an Inclusive Key(PIKSI)-Logic Program, led by?Branden Fitelson ??2-day,?Tech Ethics eXchange NorthEast (teχnē) Conference, a collaboration between the Ethics Institute, MIT, and Harvard, led at Northeastern mainly by?John Basl We want to thank all who attended and presented at these workshops!   • The Ethics Institute is excited to announce a call for applications for Professor Sina Fazelpour's 2025 Summer Research Internship. This 12-week research internship position will provide an opportunity for successful applicants to work closely with Prof. Fazelpour?on developing concepts, methodologies, or frameworks that enhance AI evaluation and governance. This position is open to current PhD students or recent PhD graduates with a demonstrated interest in AI ethics and governance. We welcome applicants from diverse fields relevant to the project, including philosophy, cognitive science, computer science, statistics, human-computer interaction, network science, and science and technology studies.   • The Ethics Institute is excited to announce an event on February 19th called “Spirituality in the Age of Science: A Conversation with Alan Lightman.” This event is hosted by Northeastern University’s Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service in 200 Ell Hall.     The Ethics Institute is excited to announce a call for applications for the 2025?AI and Data Ethics (AIDE) Summer Program. This summer school is intended for graduate students with advanced training in applied ethics, ethical theory, philosophy of science, or other areas with potential research applications to AI and big data who would like to develop research capacities in the ethics of artificial intelligence (AI), data ethics, and the philosophy of technology. This summer program will be held at Northeastern University’s Boston campus, and will run from June 2nd to July 31st. Applications are open until January 30th, 2025.
