Chiefs' Day at NIPSTA's BOF Academy 24-04 Today, the Candidates from NIPSTA’s Basic Operations Firefighter Academy 24-04 had an incredible experience during Chiefs' Day! This special day gave them the chance to showcase the firefighter skills they’ve been honing throughout the academy. The Candidates also enjoyed a lunch with their Chiefs, generously provided by Fire Pro Services. A big thank you to the Fire Pro Services team & the City Barbeque staff for making this day even more memorable for our Candidates and their Chiefs. We’re proud of the hard work and dedication these future firefighters are putting into their training! NIPSTA held their first 40 Hour Public Works Academy.?This Academy was developed with the assistance of the NIPSTA Public Works Committee, the Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency (IRMA) Public Works Steering Committee, Elevated Safety, Titan Risk Management, IRMA Staff and NIPSTA Staff. ?Based on the feedback from the 15 students, the Academy successfully met the objective of providing a basic foundation of relevant courses for new Public Works employees. This basic foundation was laid through the excellent instruction that was provided throughout the week by Elevated Safety, Titan Risk Management (Bill Crimmins) and NIPSTA Center for Disaster and Emergency Medicine Instructors. NIPSTA also appreciates the nine Public Works Departments who sent their employees to this Academy and these employees for their participation and feedback.?NIPSTA will be scheduling three academy classes in 2025...registration opening soon.

Congratulations to NIPSTA’s Executive Director Jill Ramaker for completing the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative (NPLI) "Leading When It Matters Most" at Harvard University. Says Director Ramaker: “Attending a national leadership program of this caliber will be instrumental in continuing NIPSTA’s efforts towards preparing our first responders and communities to respond to a wide range of intensifying crises.?I am grateful to the NIPSTA Board of Directors for the opportunity to have collaborated with so many inspiring and highly accomplished leaders from across the country.”

The Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency (IRMA) awarded NIPSTA their 2024 Innovative Risk Management Award at their 11th Annual Education Summit for the creation of the NIPSTA 40 Hour Public Works Academy. This program was a collaboration between the NIPSTA Public Works Committee, IRMA Public Works Steering Committee, IRMA Staff and NIPSTA Staff. The Academy's goal is to fill a significant need within the Public Works community by providing comprehensive initial training for those new to the industry.
