Representatives from more than 85 companies heard from #NUWCDivisionNewport leaders and decision-makers about current and future partnership opportunities during Industry Day, a biennial event hosted by Division Newport and the R.I. Chapter of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) on Oct. 16. Held at the Wyndham Hotel in Middletown, Rhode Island, under the theme “Expanding the Advantage,” the event marked the 18th time the two organizations have teamed up to provide industry with insight into potential projects and networking opportunities. Alexander Hayden, president of the NCMA’s R.I. chapter, welcomed attendees and emphasized a point often made by Division Newport Commanding Officer Capt. Chad Hennings — “what we do matters.” Read the full story at: https://lnkd.in/eBMWNu8x #underseasuperiority

“For NUWC, this has been very productive. We had quite a few of our engineers and scientists either out on the water or on shore, at Sail Newport or at the Narragansett Bay Test Facility, observing some of the experiments and demonstrations,” Northeast Tech Bridge Director Julie Kallfelz said. “From our perspective, our engineers were able to see technology firsthand that they otherwise might have had a hard time getting a hold of. They’re actually able to talk to the engineers of various companies, and nothing replaces a face-to-face discussion over a device or piece of equipment.” See what else some Division Newport’s scientists and engineers had to say about this year’s Blue Tech Demo Day in the video below. More than 30 technology companies showcased their products during the 2024 Blue Tech Demo Day, which was held at #NUWCDivisionNewport and Sail Newport on Aug. 29. The daylong event, hosted by Division Newport’s Northeast Tech Bridge, alongside nonprofit partner 401 Tech Bridge, connected innovative small businesses with U.S. Navy scientists and engineers and Department of Defense stakeholders to facilitate rapid delivery of capabilities to the warfighter. “At Division Newport, wartime readiness is a priority,” Division Newport Technical Director Marie Bussiere said. “As we aim to deliver undersea capabilities to the warfighter, we can’t do it alone. We must team up with outside organizations, including research and development centers, academia and industry. We can accomplish this through demonstration events like the one, where the scientists and engineers at Division Newport, as well as government agencies and non-government stakeholders, get a firsthand look at state-of-the-art technologies.” Read the full story at: https://lnkd.in/eFEj9d_d #WhatWeDoMatters #underseasuperiority

The Northeast Tech Bridge director is headed to the Summer Olympics in Paris to watch her daughter compete in rowing. Check out the story below: #2024SummerOlympics
Julie Kallfelz, who heads the Northeast Tech Bridge at #NUWCDivisionNewport, will have a vested interest as she and family members head to Paris this week to attend the Summer Olympics — her daughter Emily is representing the U.S. in the Women’s Rowing Four event. “We’re off-the-charts proud and just so excited for her,” Julie said. “It’s been a long road. You get to this level, for any athlete, and you appreciate how narrow a slot it is to get to this level of performance and this level of competition. Just a tiny sliver of the population is even physiologically capable.” Good luck Emily and the USRowing team! Read the full story at: https://lnkd.in/eJ2Qty2f #WhatWeDoMatters #2024Olympics

#NUWCDivisionNewport hosted a panel discussion on Feb. 7 to detail how the Technology Partnership Office (TPO) can help projects succeed by using the “tools in the toolbox.” “Our mission is to partner with outside organizations, and we do that in several ways,” said Bill Zappone, a commercialization specialist in the TPO. “This is a forum on the toolbox, so our TPO office has a set of tools that we use.” Joining Zappone and Julie Kallfelz, director of the Northeast Tech Bridge, on the panel were Molly Magee, chief executive officer of SENEDIA-the Alliance for Defense Tech, Talent, and Innovation; Lee Silvestre, NavalX - Tech Bridge Network coordinator for the Northeast Tech Bridge and SENEDIA; Erik Brine, director of the 401 Tech Bridge, a nonprofit organization that works in conjunction with the Northeast Tech Bridge; and Linda Larson, operations manager at the 401 Tech Bridge. "These organizations are “our eyes and ears on the ground with industry, who know and understand very much who’s out there, what their capacity is, what their skill level is, what the maturity level is,” Kallfelz said. “This is a force extension for NUWC Division Newport. These partnerships give us even greater reach and capacity.” Learn more about the partnership tools at: https://lnkd.in/eU98D3kc #WhatWeDoMatters US Navy
