We recently celebrated the official opening of the John F. Prochilo therapeutic garden at our Salem, NH hospital. We redesigned this outdoor area in honor of John, our former CEO, who retired a year ago after 37 years of exemplary service. The garden offers a calm, comforting and healing environment for our patients, their loved ones and our staff. Careful consideration went into the design which incorporates natural features to enhance each patient's therapeutic experience - various walking surfaces, an arched bridge, raised flower beds and a pergola. This project is also part of our 40th anniversary celebration. A special thank you to the talented NRHN team members who poured so much love, thought and creativity into creating this relaxing, therapeutic retreat. The heartfelt energy at last night’s Service Awards Banquet was inspiring. We had a fabulous time recognizing our Service Award Recipients - 112 individuals who reached 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and even 35 year milestones during 2023. Plus, it was an honor to recognize our Circle of Excellence Award recipients. Tonight is the night for an NRHN favorite - our annual Service Awards Banquet. This evening employees from across our Network are gathered to honor our Service Award Recipients. 112 employees are celebrating 5, 10, 20, 25, 30, and yes…35 years of service (based on calendar year 2023). It's Rehabilitation Awareness Week and this year's theme is the Power of Medical Rehab. Across our Network, teams are creatively inspiring our patients and one another. We thought it would be fitting to share some pictures from a recent event at our Salem hospital. The U200 team hosted their own “Rehab Olympics". Patients participated in events such as pool noodle fencing, wheelchair racing and parallel bar hurdles. They also opened and closed their events with special ceremonies. We’ve been beating the summer heat while enjoying a relaxing team activity. The Wellness Committe hosted the “Calm, Cool and Coloring Challenge”. GIANT coloring posters by artist DebbieLynn have been spreading cheer throughout our Network. Posters have been available to staff at all of our locations, in departments and common areas. Last week, photos of the completed posters were submitted for judging. We will be sure to share the finished projects. If you are looking for something to do on these hot summer days, grab a coloring book, create some free time and enjoy the mental mindset this activity creates. #northeastrehabilitationhospital #NortheastRehab

May is #StrokeAwarenessMonth and we are joining healthcare organizations and non-profits in a unified effort to make sure everyone knows the signs and symptoms of a stroke. According to the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association -- New Hampshire, stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and the leading cause of disability in the United States. Our nurses are filling buckets and creating connections during hydration rounds at #NortheastRehabilitationHospitalNetwork located inside The Elliot. Meaghan Parnell, a full-time LNA, has started a new trend! During her shift Meaghan creates a motivational quote that she writes on each patient's cup, along with the date. The quotes are motivating and inspiring the patients. “The creative cups are very well received. They brighten the patients’ days and also the staffs,” said Devin Lucy, Nurse Manager for NRHN at The Elliot. Bridget Poole, PD, LNA (left) is pictured with Meaghan Parnell (right). Bridget is also helping to continue this practice during her shifts. She left the network for a short while but came back to NRH because of the teamwork, the culture and the patients! “This place is like no other, feels like a family!” We’re glad to have you back Bridget and grateful for your creative enthusiasm Meaghan.
