??? From Sun to Snow—Apprentice Life Never Gets Boring! ???? Our Year 2, Group B apprentice lineworkers are in class this week, and Mother Nature is keeping them on their toes! Yesterday? Sunshine and melting snow. Today? A fresh new layer of powder... just to keep things interesting! Despite the weather whiplash, these apprentices found time for a high-stakes (low-speed) football game—played from the poles! ??? Sure, it might not be the most action-packed game you’ve ever seen, but watching them attempt passes while 20 feet up is surprisingly entertaining. And from my spot on the sidelines (camera in hand), I’d say the real MVP is gravity. ?? It’s a special time to show young girls how engineers change the world, encourage them to explore engineering, and let them know that their dreams are limitless. ?????? DiscoverE’s research shows that hands-on experiences with engineering activities help girls build confidence, develop a STEM identity, and foster a passion for problem-solving. This is more than just a day – it’s a movement to inspire future engineers! Historically, women like Edith Clarke, the first woman to earn an electrical engineering degree from MIT and a pioneer in power transmission, and Marie Curie, the first person to win Nobel Prizes in two different fields, broke barriers for women in science and engineering. Their groundbreaking work paved the way for future generations. Female engineers are making a difference in public power too! ??? Take Kimberly Holmes, General Manager of Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant TMLP and a member of NEPPA's Board of Directors, and Kelly Kobrenski, Systems Engineer at Town of Danvers Electric Division, who also serves on our Engineering Subcommittee.
