Last week, we celebrated a generous grant from the Northbrook Civic Foundation with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the library. The funding enabled us to transform the library's Civic Room into a versatile and inclusive meeting and program space that seamlessly accommodates both in-person and remote participants. The room's new technology includes ceiling-mounted speakers for even audio distribution, dual cameras for comprehensive video coverage, and sound-dampening features to deliver crystal-clear audio for virtual attendees. To enhance accessibility, the room features a dedicated listening system compatible with hearing loop devices, ensuring an inclusive experience for all. The Civic Room is available to reserve Northbrook Library cardholders aged 18 and older. We thank the Northbrook Civic Foundation for helping us create a more inclusive and connected community space! About the Northbrook Civic Foundation: Since 1950, the Northbrook Civic Foundation has given back more than $3.2 million to the community through college scholarships for students and grants to worthwhile organizations that serve Northbrook. How the Northbrook Civic Foundation Shaped Our Library’s History: The Civic Foundation has played a crucial role in the library's history. In the fall of 1953, the Civic Foundation voted to use money accumulated from 16 years of Northbrook Days to construct a library building on the corner of Shermer and Church streets. Just a decade later, to meet the community's growing needs, they helped finance the construction of our current building at the corner of Cherry Lane and Cedar Avenue. #Northbrook #WhereCommunityHappens
