At North Star, we thrive taking on challenging projects. We don't back down from big tasks; we face them head-on. Our recent project in Colorado continues to prove this each day! ? This project involves the installation of 1,430 and 230 linear-feet of 96-inch ring beam and hardwood lagging tunnel support using an Akkerman TBM for storm water relief. The crew has battled soil conditions in some portions of the first tunnel that have required soil stabilization.?The means and methods North Star crews have utilized has allowed for precise excavation and installation, ensuring the structural integrity of the tunnel while navigating through some of the most challenging ground conditions this crew has experienced!? ? Approximately 1,120 linear-feet in, and 500 linear-feet to go!?Thanks to our amazing crew and their hard work, this project is on track for success!?We're proud to add this to our portfolio.

Over the summer, our tunnel crews worked hard on another tunnel project in Texas.?The project called for installation of a 66” steel casing followed by a 48” fiberglass pipe for a new gravity sewer under Union Pacific Rail.?North Star was able to meet demands of continuous operations from TBM launch to completion!?Great job, team—keep up the excellent work! ??♂???♀???

The new 48-inch feeder main that will connect to the Saylorville Water Treatment Plant is being installed. The initial portion was laid under Merle Hay Road next to Beaver Creek. Other portions will be installed this summer. This project is necessary to support more water capacity for the western areas of the metro, including Johnston, and is part of the expansion of the Saylorville Plant, boosting its capacity from 10 million gallons a day to 20 million gallons a day. Des Moines Water Works is overseeing this project on behalf of Central Iowa Water Works.
