?? Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in action! ???? Today, Yara International in Sluiskil and Northern Lights JV showcased their significant progress on the joint CCS project. It was impressive to see the construction activities on site and even more impressive to visit the Northern Pathfinder. The Northern Pathfinder is the first of its kind and has been custom-designed to safely transport CO2. A warm welcome to North Sea Port, always a pleasure te meet our Norwegian friends! ?? Operations are already expected to commence in 2026. I'm looking forward to seeing the world’s first commercial liquefied?CO2?transport ships passing through the new North Sea Locks, sailing to Yara in Sluiskil. Really proud that companies like Yara, member of Smart Delta Resources, and Northern Lights are demonstrating such leadership in realizing this first cross-border CCS project in Europe! The EU’s Clean Industrial Deal is finally here North Sea Port, among 400 business leaders, industry and worker representatives from across Europe, met in Antwerp to discuss the just-published #CleanIndustrialDeal with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. ??? We applaud the #CleanIndustrialDeal initiative and focus set by Von der Leyen, placing industry on the highest political agenda. As an industrial port, we resonate with many of the challenges such as for example high energy prices that are recognized in the industrial deal. It is of essence that our industrial actors are supported in their efforts to decarbonize, but also in their competitiveness which is facing a very different global trade landscape.?? ?? ?As the largest hydrogen hub in the Benelux and many actors active in the hard-to-abate industrial sectors, we specifically welcome the Clean Industrial Deal’s aim to lower energy bills and making work of structural reforms, create lead markets, catalyze on circularity and including trade policy reviews. Samenwerken aan een veilige haven! ?? #TogetherSmarter De haven vraagt om continue #waakzaamheid, #samenwerking en actie. De uitdagingen rond beveiliging en criminaliteit in de haven nemen toe. Deze week deelden experts aan de Vlaamse kant van ons havengebied hun inzichten en concrete maatregelen om de veiligheid te versterken, onder andere: ?? Nationale Drugscommissaris Ine Van Wymersch gaf een helder beeld van de drugsproblematiek in het Gentse deel van de haven.? ?? Peter Claeyssens, Directeur Generaal van DG Scheepvaart FOD Mobiliteit en Vervoer wees op strengere inspecties en handhaving van de maritieme wetgeving? ?? Kurt Verheyen namens Dienst voor de Veiligheid van de Staat sprak over hybride dreigingen ?? North Sea Port is releasing a unique 34 hectare seaport site around the former BTZ site in #Vlissingen, including the new 700 metre-long Quarleskade deepsea quay and with direct access to the North Sea. The port authority and the receivers of the failed Bulk Terminal Zeeland (BTZ) are looking for #companies with a strong role in the #energy and/or raw materials transition, deep-sea port-related activities and the capacity to make optimum use of the site and the available infrastructure.? Afgelopen zaterdag, op 22 februari, plantten North Sea Port en ArcelorMittal elk vijf verdienstelijke bomen aan in het nieuwe bos bij The Loop in Stad Gent. Dit initiatief van Forest Forward ondersteunt bedrijven die zich inzetten voor duurzaamheid door hen bomen te schenken. Als haven dragen we graag bij aan een groene en leefbare omgeving, van Gent over Terneuzen tot Vlissingen. Deze symbolische aanplant – vijf bomen binnen een bos van 1.000 bomen – onderstreept onze voortdurende inzet voor meer natuur in en rond de havenregio. We zijn voortdurend bezig met het verbeteren van de leefbaarheid en investeren actief in natuurprojecten die de regio ten goede komen. Met zulke projecten dragen we bij aan het versterken van de regio als groene, dynamische en toekomstgerichte haven. ?? Congratulations to Lion Storage for the financial close for the project #Mufasa: the development of the largest battery energy storage systems in the Netherlands and one of the largest in Europe. The storage capacity of 1,400MWh and the power capacity of 350MW corresponds to the consumption of 200,000 households. ?? This Dutch energy storage developer, part of Return, will built the battery project in our port, in Vlissingen. After all, North Sea Port is a hub for renewable energy and the energy transition in the Netherlands and Western Europe. ?? The project will become operational in the first half of 2027.
