North Mississippi Medical Clinics recently honored medical lab and radiology technician Summer Lambert with Star of the Month for her exceptional dedication to her teammates and patients. Summer joined the NMHS team in 2021 and currently serves her patients at Iuka Medical Clinic. Summer's nomination comes with several pages of heartfelt comments from her peers. Notes one nomination, "There are so many reasons to nominate Summer but the one that sticks out to me is her willingness to help. It does not matter what is going on, if I ask her for help, she's there." Another peer highlights her drive to ensure patients have the best experience. "Summer is a patient experience champion," they wrote in her nomination. "She has a sense of humor like no other and uses it to make her patients feel welcomed and comfortable. There has yet to be a patient she could not put at ease regardless of the circumstances." An impressive 17 pages of nominations from her teammates touch on a consistent theme of honesty, integrity and a desire to go above and beyond to help her patients and peers. "Summer is our C.A.R.E.S. Values in action every day," writes one submission. "We are lucky to have her at our clinic," writes another. When Beth Townsend joined the NMHS team in 1988 as a registered nurse, she was searching for a career that would allow her to make a profound impact on her community. Over the years, her journey took her from registered nurse to nurse manager in Oncology, where she dedicated herself to improving the lives of patients with cancer diagnoses for nearly 35 years. Beth's unwavering commitment to her patients was her True North. In 2024, this was put to the ultimate test when she was diagnosed with breast cancer herself. Suddenly, she found herself on the receiving end of the same exceptional care she had always strived to provide. “For the first time, I was the patient, and I didn’t realize I was going to have this wonderful staff taking care of me,” she reflects. “That’s when I truly understood that we are the True North. We take fantastic care of our patients and I’m so grateful to be a part of that.” Beth's experience as a patient gave her a renewed understanding and empathy for those she serves. After her treatment, she returned to Oncology with even greater vigor and determination. North Mississippi Medical Center recently recognized four chaplains for their commitment to serving patients. These volunteer chaplains were honored during the annual luncheon at NMMC to recognize individuals for their outstanding commitment to spiritual care for patients. Chaplain Bill Dillon, founder and director emeritus of Occupational Chaplains of America, now known as Chaplaincy Ministries, served as the keynote speaker for the event. Dillon’s presentation focused on the spiritual care of employees, noting that “studies have shown that spiritual care providers engaging with employees increases productivity levels and morale, while decreasing absenteeism and turnover.” Dillon, an elder for Cedar Grove Church, is one of several NMMC chaplains who make rounds at the hospital specifically to engage with staff, as well as patients. Patrice Stone of Saltillo received the 2024 Chaplain of the Year Award, which is presented annually to a volunteer chaplain whose compassion for patients and commitment to pastoral care are extraordinary. Joy Nightingale of Okolona received the 2024 Lay Chaplain Excellence in Pastoral Care Award. The Rev. Jacqueline Agnew of Plantersville was named the 2024 Clinical Pastoral Education Chaplain of the Year. The Rev. James Richardson was recognized with the Pastoral Care Department’s Outstanding Service Award.
