The NDDOT is an innovative and progressive organization. We have a great team of employees that work hard to carry out the Department’s mission to safely move people and goods. The NDDOT strives to build and maintain an efficient transportation system consisting of about 8,518 miles of roadway and 4,858 bridges. It oversees the development of surface transportation including highways, bridges, rail, transit, pedestrian and bicycle paths across the state. Annually, the Department processes over 1,000,000 vehicle registrations and serves over 500,000 licensed drivers at branch offices located across the state. The NDDOT’s Central Office is located on the North Dakota State Capitol Grounds in Bismarck and has eight District Offices across the state in Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot, Valley City and Williston. In January 2018, NDDOT, North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP), and the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH), launched Vision Zero to serve as the framework to guide all statewide traffic safety activity, including (but not limited to): 1. Widespread public education/outreach. 2. Working with the legislature to ensure state laws represent best practices in traffic safety. 3. High visibility enforcement of existing laws. 4. Technology advancements. 5. Infrastructure/road safety improvements Along with the support and action of these lead agencies, private sector stakeholders that share interest in traffic safety are critical partners in Vision Zero efforts. North Dakota just got ranked #3 nationally in highway performance and cost-effectiveness in Reason Foundation's Annual Report - up from #9 last year. We were found to have "better-than-average system conditions (good for road users) along with relatively low per-mile expenditures (also good for taxpayers)." "This ranking is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team at NDDOT," said Director Ron Henke. "We are committed to delivering a safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation system for North Dakota. Congratulations to Brady H., DOTSC lead, on being named Young Engineer of the Year! Brady can be seen in the photo, second from right.
