We got the opportunity this week to attend the annual conference of the?North Carolina School Boards Association in Greensboro. For two days, we met school board members from across the state and shared information about how the money raised by the lottery supports education in their communities. For example, last year 16 counties received more than $416 million in lottery-funded grants to build new schools and expanded facilities for the arts, CTE, and more. School board members representing these counties were able to share updates with us as they create great places of learning. Want to learn how your community could be next? A coveted state award, The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, went to one of our commissioners, Pam Whitaker, this week. It’s the highest award for state service from the Governor’s Office and goes to those who have made significant contributions to the state. Gov. Roy Cooper honored Pam with the award for her service on the lottery commission. Congrats to Pam. We were glad that your husband, Garry, could be here to see you receive the award.?
