  • A big thank you to everyone who came out to donate supplies at the State Farmers Market, the Robert G. Shaw Piedmont Triad Farmers Market and the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market. With your help, nearly 300 pallets of supplies are on their way to Western North Carolina. NCDA&CS is proud to be part of the fabric of our communities, and your generosity shows! • Late Thursday afternoon, the NCDA&CS Standards Division received a call regarding the need to calibrate a new fuel meter on a truck located at the Lincolnton Regional Airport. This truck was going to be used to fuel National Guard helicopters that were providing support to the western region of the state that was affected by Hurricane Helene. The NCDA&CS calibrator for this area was not able to respond, as he and his family have been impacted by Helene. Another calibrator in NCDA&CS responded to the call for aid and made it to the airport by 7 a.m. on Friday morning to get the meter calibrated so the helicopters could start being refueled at this site. NCDA&CS has been on the ground since before Helene impacted North Carolina. We will do everything we can to help the people of Western North Carolina recover. #NCAgriculture #ncwx #HeleneReliefEfforts #Helene2024

  • The hard work of ASAR Training and Response and their partners in Western North Carolina has been nothing short of amazing. The NCDA&CS Agriculture Emergency Hotline received a call to respond to 22 horses trapped in Black Mountain. ASAR was dispatched on the mission. These specially trained technical rescue operators never gave up in spite of fighting creeks, rivers and washed out roads. They even paddle boarded food to the horses as they devised a plan to rescue the herd. Thank you to ASAR for all your help! #NCAgriculture #ncwx #HeleneReliefEfforts #Helene2024

  • Commissioner Troxler has visited Western North Carolina several times this week, talking to people about their needs and how the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services can help. “I’ve been on the ground in a number of communities in Western North Carolina reassuring people that they are not forgotten and that there are many people rallying to support them, including the N.C. Department of Agriculture. The need is great and this will be a long-term effort that we need people to stay engaged with,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “We have every division in the department involved in this disaster. It ranges from everything from humanitarian efforts of sheltering people at the Western North Carolina Ag Center, even co-sheltering them with pets, and working with animal shelters to get relief supplies in for pets, to delivering emergency USDA food for mass feeding efforts. We are assisting livestock producers with emergency fencing, feed and water needs, and we are assisting in opening roads up, manning command centers for incident management teams and working with food manufacturers. We are going to continue to show up and support the people in these affected areas.” If you have immediate needs, please contact the Agriculture Emergency Hotline at 1-866-645-9403. #NCAgriculture #ncwx #HeleneReliefEfforts #Helene2024
