At the State Reentry Council Collaborative meeting in #Raleigh, #NCDAC leaders shared exciting updates including - 8 million + reentry courses have been completed through Hope University, a new CDL program, and the launch of a statewide offender newspaper. We also heard about progress on the #Reentry 2030 Strategic Plan and expanded work release programs. For many offenders, the lack of a valid driver’s license can be a major barrier after release, often complicating their job prospects, which can hinder successful reentry into the community. Last week, #NCDAC's Carteret Correctional Center held a workshop to help ~50 offenders work toward regaining their driver’s licenses. Campbell University law students & volunteers guided participants through a range of licensing issues—from unpaid tickets & failures to appear in court to license suspensions, revocations, & expirations. Through this unique initiative, offenders who address their past driving records are eligible to take the written exam while still in custody & complete the driving test after their release. #TeamNCDAC #CampbellUniversity #ReentryMatters

In response to Hurricane #Helene, they increased operations to support recovery efforts, creating signs to help emergency workers & the public navigate 500+ road closures in western #NC. Franklin Correctional Center is home to the largest sign-making facility of its kind in the U.S. #TeamNCDAC #HurricaneRecovery

TransTech, North Carolina’s largest truck driving training school has partnered with The NC Department of Adult Correction and Correction Enterprises to provide Class A CDL training to offenders. The CDL Training Program in Greenville, NC., envisioned by #NCCE Director John Coleman and brought to life by Workforce Development staff, Torrey Leach and Shalonza Atkins, is delivered in partnership with Greene CI (Correctional Program Supervisor, Joseph White; Warden, Shelia Sauls), NCDAC Educational Services (Education Consultant II, Duane Cogdell), and TransTech. https://lnkd.in/eW9CGFgb
