The 2025 North Carolina Site Selectors Summit is off to a great start with the famous Pinehurst Resort breakfast, thanks to the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area CVB and the Sanford Area Growth Alliance! This morning we've heard welcoming remarks from Nate Groover, NCCED, MEDP, and then listened to an insightful discussion on the Natron Energy project, highlighting how Edgecombe County secured a $1.4 billion clean energy investment. Panelists Oppie Jordan, Ken Biberaj, and Garrett Wyckoff shared their perspectives on the strategy, collaboration, and key factors that led to this major economic win! A major highlight of the morning was our Meet the Consultants roundtables - an interactive session where economic developers and site selection consultants were able to have valuable discussions with one another. This provided an opportunity to exchange insights and build meaningful connections that could lead to future collaborations and wins for North Carolina. Follow along with #NCSiteSelectors2025!

North Carolina's Southeast has promoted a strategy for the last 10+ years with our partners to transform Highway/I-74 into a stronger economic growth corridor along the 150 mile stretch from the NC Ports in Wilmington to Anson County. It’s rewarding to see this strategy coming to fruition due to the leadership of the local EDOs. Thought about all this yesterday as I drove part of the corridor to and from Anson County. To my point (going from west to east): the Anson EDC has developed the Atlantic Gateway Logistics Park (a CSX Select Site) and is starting construction on a 45k sf shell building in that park. Richmond County Economic Development was one of the first counties to develop a park on the corridor; Martie Butler has just completed construction on their 6th shell building of 40k sf in that park. Mark Ward, CEcD, MEDP and SCOTLAND COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION are marketing a 50k sf shell building constructed last year and are developing new industrial sites in the corridor. The ROBESON COUNTY COMMITTEE OF 100 FOUNDATION INC, Robeson County EDC, and the City of Lumberton have developed the Southeast Crossroads Parks at the junction of I-95 and I-74, where Elkay Zurn has constructed a large distribution center and where Cold-Link Logistics will build a new 250k sf cold storage facility. Robeson County will also build a new shell building in the Comtech Business Park. Gary Lanier, Ed.D. and the Columbus County EDC are identifying new industrial sites along the corridor, have developed a pad-ready site in Southeast Regional Park, and are partners with Tabor City in building a 25k sf shell building. Continuing east, Brunswick Business & Industry Development has worked with private developers to construct 300,000+ sf of industrial spec space along the corridor in the International Logistics Park of North Carolina, a joint park with Columbus County. Epsilon announced a large facility in the Mid-Atlantic Industrial Rail Park, a CSX Select Site. Scott Satterfield and Cliff Pyron Jr. with Wilmington Business Development have facilitated more than a million sf of privately developed spec space and have nearly filled Pender Commerce Park with diverse companies. More site development is underway in New Hanover County under their leadership. The North Carolina Department Of Transportation has brought Highway 74 to almost interstate standard on most of the corridor in the last 25 years, and the NC State Ports Authority’s modernization and expansion has been key to meeting the logistics needs of companies. These efforts reflect the tremendous work and strategic planning by these local developers and EDOS to take vision to reality, and their results in product development and transportation improvements are triggering more opportunities to site high quality companies along the corridor.
