关于我们
North American Land Trust (NALT) is a conservation organization based in Chadds Ford, PA, with remote offices in North Carolina, Alabama, and Georgia. We work with landowners from all over the country to conserve the land that is special to them, ensuring that the natural features, scenic beauty and important ecosystems found in this country are protected forever, one acre at a time. Since recording our first Conservation Easement in 1995, we have helped landowners protect extraordinary land by employing ecological insight, land planning expertise, sophisticated mapping and innovative conservation strategies. NALT’s team is comprised of experienced natural resource experts working in partnership with a national network of advisors. Through our strategic conservation planning we offer solutions that are both visionary and pragmatic for achieving the landowner’s goals. Our conservation portfolio includes mitigation conservation, wetland mitigation & restoration conservation and long-term stewardship, corporate conservation, limited development conservation, endangered species habitat protection, land planning, and family lands conservation. Our conservation easements are custom-made to fit our varying landowners' needs and future goals. NALT is proudly Accredited under the Standards for Excellence through the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations and as such is recognized as having met all the requirements of The Standards for Excellence ?: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector.

The Palmetto Bluff Conservancy is a support organization, e.g. a subsidiary of NALT. It's mission is more locally focused in South Carolina, but follows in our tradition of exceptional conservation work. Due to the rich historical resources of the peninsula where it works, the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy engages with archaeologists and historians to research and document its cultural resources, in addition to its work on nature and education. To learn more about Palmetto Bluff, read our Stories from the Land article about their archaeological work: https://lnkd.in/gJXUTuMw. A big thank you to Chadds Ford Live for highlighting our Pollinator Initiative and Meadow Conversion projects across eastern Pennsylvania. We are dedicated to creating vital habitat for both pollinators and the Chadds Ford community. Our hope is that these natural areas not only attract thriving pollinator populations but also inspire people to cherish and enjoy these public preserves as they grow and flourish for years to come. ?? by Richard Schwartzman: https://lnkd.in/egsH9K3t

Meet some of the people that make up the North American Land Trust family! ?? Ever wonder who is behind the NALT Communications? Well, its me! Sara Johnson joined the NALT team in 2023 as a Conservation Biologist and Communications Lead, bringing a diverse suite of skills including field expertise, research experience, and a passion for science communication. Sara's role at NALT includes developing visual storytelling that highlights the diversity protected within NALTs conservation areas. As a biologist, Sara helps to create bio-inventories for oncoming conservation easements, and coordinates restoration and safeguarding projects for at-risk species, particularly by working with landowners to facilitate stewardship goals. Sara grew up in Western New York where she explored the forests of her region, developing a love for the outdoors. She received a B.A. in biology from Niagara University, and went on to pursue a M.S. at the University of Illinois: Urbana-Champaign. Through her M.S. research and time as a plant ecologist at the Illinois Natural History Survey, she made lifelong friendships and committed to a career in the ecological sciences. Sara says, "what I love about working for NALT is that every day is different. Even in my short time working here, I have explored conservation areas in over 12 states and there is something fascinating and wonderful to find in all of them. I love being able to share my love of the little things that make the natural world so diverse, and sharing how important of land conservation is. I hope it teaches others to foster and steward the land for a better future."

We're buzzing with news! ?? North American Land Trust (NALT) recently was awarded a $276,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) in support of NALT’s Pollinator Meadow Initiative in Southeastern Pennsylvania. “We are very grateful for DCNR’s support of this important environmental initiative,” said NALT President Steven Carter. “Creating pollinator habitats to support wildlife is a part of NALT’s conservation mission in the region. That is why we decided to offer this pollinator meadow conversion initiative to municipalities, landowners, and homeowner associations throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.” “We are planning to convert an additional 20 acres of habitat in 2025,” said Wyatt Moyer, an environmental scientist at NALT. “Meadow conversion projects have yielded a significant increase in pollinator species by increasing nectar resources and creating pollinator habitats.” Read the full article on our website: https://lnkd.in/eXpwFG2B Authored by Sean Connolly, APR

It's #ForbFriday and today we are talking about one of the cutest lil spring ephemerals of Eastern forests, Dutchman's Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria). Dutchman's breeches are named for their adorable "pantaloon" like flowers which bloom in early spring, typically from March to April. This native wildflower ranges throughout most of the Eastern North America, and occurs in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, where it grows infrequently along stream corridors. Dutchman's Breeches has a specialized floral structure and mechanism which requires bumblebees for successful pollination. The outer and inner petals split to expose the reproductive parts of the flower, which the bumblebee will sweep past when searching for nectar. This species, like many spring ephemerals, produces seeds that attract ants, which spread the seeds in a process called myrmecochory. The seeds have a fleshy elaisome or appendage which the ants utilize as food before discarding the seed in their trash middens. This creates a rich medium for the seed to then germinate in a protected place. Dutchman's breeches grow best in woodland soils that are rich with organic matter, preferably in moist and shady locations. They can be difficult to cultivate and do not transplant well. Protecting slopes and rich forest habitat is critical to providing habitat for this species, as well as many other early blooming spring ephemerals. ?? What is a forb? A #forb is an herbaceous (non-woody) flowering plant, excluding grasses which also flower, but are termed "graminoids." Like and follow our page, and North American Land Trust for future Forb Friday highlights!
