U.S. Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett and State Senator Brian Williams for Missouri made a special visit to Jefferson Elementary School, where they both once attended as students. During their visit, they engaged with students, discussing their roles in government and how their time at Jefferson shaped their leadership journeys. Congresswoman Crockett encouraged the students, saying, “If you see it, you can be it. You see two people from your school making their own history.” She continued, “I want y’all dreaming for the biggest thing you can dream of.” Senator Williams emphasized the lasting impact of educators, noting that the students may not remember who their congressman or congresswoman is, but they will always remember their teacher. Their visit was a powerful reminder of the importance of education and community, inspiring the next generation to dream big. They were joined by NSC Superintendent Michael Triplett, Norm Campbell, NSC Director of Security, Dr. Greg Lesan, Jefferson Principal, and JEGB President Harlan Hodge.

Earlier this morning, Normandy staff, Joint Executive Governing Board members, and community partners joined at Bel-Nor Elementary to celebrate the opening of the second The Believe Projects Literacy Library in Normandy Schools Collaborative. Led by the St. Louis Black Authors of Children’s Literature, this initiative is designed to boost reading proficiency, especially among our K-3 students, and empower our young learners to thrive in literacy. Ninety percent of the characters or authors featured in the reading space will be people of color. This is the district's second Literacy Lab, following the successful launch at Barack Obama Elementary in 2022. We’re excited to continue this journey of fostering a love of reading and learning within our community!
