The Daily Heller: Anita Kunz Celebrates Fabulous Women at Rockwell Museum ??♀? The Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA, has become a popular destination in the Berkshires for its spacious galleries filled with Rockwell art and lore, as well as its significant archive of American illustration and a burgeoning legacy of original contemporary exhibitions. Just coming off its well-attended show on the art and culture of MAD magazine, the current offering, Anita Kunz: Original Sisters: Portraits of Tenacity and Courage, is a tour de face and force of research and artistry that defies the false equivalency between fine and applied art, insofar as the artistry is flawless and the application is mind- and eye-grabbing. Kunz has long deserved the distinction of leader and master as a conceptual (satiric and editorial) artist/illustrator. With this latest exhibition and the book on which it is based, she has become elevated into a higher realm of both intellectual and expressive power. Visiting the Norman Rockwell Museum’s galleries, seeing the precise rows of over 200 of her forgotten “Original Sisters,” one will doubtless be rendered speechless by the beauty, gravity, intelligence and passion in each of these works. Celebrating 50 years of American Illustration Art
关于我们
Norman Rockwell Museum is the preeminent museum of American illustration art. Dedicated to art education and art appreciation inspired by the enduring legacy of Norman Rockwell, the Museum stewards the world’s largest and most significant collection of Rockwell art, and presents the works of contemporary and past masters of illustration. The Museum’s holdings include Rockwell's last studio, moved from its original location to the Museum grounds, and the Norman Rockwell Archives, a 200,000-object collection undergoing digital preservation through ProjectNORMAN, “A Save America’s Treasures Project.” The Museum is also home to the Rockwell Center for American Visual Studies, the nation’s first research institute devoted to the art of illustration. In 2008, Norman Rockwell Museum became the first-ever museum recipient of the National Humanities Medal, America’s highest honor in the field. Norman Rockwell Museum is located on 36 park-like acres in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, Rockwell’s hometown for the last 25 years of his life. The Museum is open year-round; closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. From May through October, hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; from November through April, hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Rockwell’s studio is open May through October, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit the Museum online at www.nrm.org.

The Daily Heller: Women Who Matter ?? Toronto-based Anita Kunz has employed a distinct contemporary classical style of painting to create some caustic caricature and satire of the late 20th and 21st centuries (though to see her, you wouldn’t know she’s been working as long as she has). Her assignments as an editorial illustrator, however, like many of her generation, have not been consistent. So, she’s turned inward and outward to find inspiration for current projects. In recent years she’s been working on portraits of highly accomplished and under-represented women from past and present. From November 9- May 26, 2025, her exhibit of over 250 images from her massive oeuvre, titled “Anita Kunz: Original Sisters: Portraits of Tenacity and Courage,” will be on exhibit at the Norman Rockwell Museum. Here, we speak of the show, the women, the causes, and the state of her art. If you’re out in Western Mass before October 27–and you have the soul of a 13 year old boy—I recommend the Art of Mad Magazine at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge. Great exhibit of graphic art, with oddball side notes about the origins of Alfred E. Newman (who pre-dates Mad) and other funny and beautifully illustrated stories from the Usual Gang of Idiots.

Artist and Illustrator TASCHEN's "The Illustrator: 100 Best from Around The World" ---------- Artworks in the permanent collection of The Library of Congress, Washington, DC
The Norman Rockwell Museum recently commissioned me to create artwork to encourage people to vote in the upcoming US election. I have always felt strongly about voting. If we want change, there is no better way than through the ballots we cast. Many times in my career I have created art promoting this message, both in my personal and commercial work. I truly hope Americans will vote in their upcoming election this November. What happens in the United States affects all of us in the world. Please vote!
