In uncertain times when the usual decision-making tools feel inadequate, we can look to the wisdom of the past to help chart our way. ? I recently celebrated a birthday, and some close friends gifted me an awesome present to mark the occasion: an astrolabe. Astrolabes were an ancient tool used for navigation long before modern instruments existed. It helped travelers chart their course using only the stars and the sun, offering a way to orient themselves when familiar landmarks weren’t enough. When profound change abounds and the familiar landscape we know is shifting underfoot, it’s easy to feel lost. This gift reminds me that the ability to navigate unfamiliar waters is a challenge people have been dealing with since the earliest times. We adapt, recalibrate, and seek out fixed points that guide us forward. Now, I just need to learn how to use this thing… ??
