“Over the last 30 years, the number of political surveys has exploded from just a few dozen per election cycle to many hundreds, even thousands, fielded at every level and for nearly every contest,” writes NORC Center for Panel Survey Sciences director David Dutwin. As our political landscape becomes inundated with surveys of varying reliability, how can we distinguish signal from noise? David writes about the critical need for high-quality survey methodologies—and how to balance survey quantity and quality: https://lnkd.in/ej8_AgBC

Together, We Find Evidence for a Better World. NORC at the University of Chicago is an objective, nonpartisan research organization that partners with government, corporate, and nonprofit clients around the world to inform the critical decisions facing society. For more than 80 years, NORC has used proven methods and pioneered new techniques to study the broad spectrum of human experience. We have explored the structural and personal factors that contribute to health and well-being, examined how we best learn at different stages of development, and how education systems contribute to positive and negative outcomes. NORC has charted the nature of employment and work and created deep knowledge about the state of the national economy and our relationship with money and income. We have helped governments around the world design, implement, and evaluate programs to improve the human condition. And we have probed the heart of the American psyche to understand the sometimes-conflicting views that will shape the future of the country. We now look to the future in a context of accelerating change within the industry, growing amounts and types of data, dramatic technological shifts, a dynamic population, and a growing and diversifying set of players in the research and data industries. In this environment, we must chart a course of evolutionary yet bold change that will build upon our traditional strengths to ensure our relevance, impact, and long-term sustainability.

At NORC at the University of Chicago, we believe that reliable and unbiased election data is essential to a thriving democracy. For more than a decade, we have partnered with The Associated Press to shed light on voter behavior through election research. Central to our collaboration is AP VoteCast - an innovative survey of the entire American electorate.? ? In the midst of this election season, I think it's important to share the history of the AP-NORC partnership and AP VoteCast itself: how it has evolved, what it is (and is not), and why it remains a powerful tool for understanding America's voice.? A very special thanks to Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research leaders Trevor Tompson and Jennifer Benz for their input on this piece.?

Nearly 2 million people ages 50 to 64 are estimated to have lost Medicaid coverage during the post-pandemic Medicaid redetermination process, according to modeling from NORC in collaboration with the AARP Public Policy Institute. Key findings from our analysis: — 7 in 10 disenrollments stem from administrative barriers — Many losing coverage likely still qualify for Medicaid — Common administrative issues include not getting renewal packets due to address changes and missed deadlines Check out this article from AARP to learn more about our research into Medicaid disenrollment: https://lnkd.in/ep-TBEkW
