Healthcare facilities are under tremendous pressure to provide high quality care while using assets and resources efficiently. So when University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMC) in Utrecht, The Netherlands, started looking for an asset tracking solution, they had a long list of requirements. Asset tracking enables employees to quickly locate and get a status on all sorts of equipment, from ventilators to thermometers, no matter where they are on campus. Accessing needed equipment not only saves lives, but helps reduce inventory costs by ensuring items are intelligently located across the facility. UMC Utrecht’s requirements included easy installation, low maintenance, suitability for medical settings, high location accuracy, ability to add and support many types of devices, and scalability. They also wanted to be able to easily add future use cases such as temperature or CO2 monitoring. Working in a retail store sometimes requires working late night or early morning hours, handling money, or working alone, and those activities can put employees at risk. The State of New York has responded to the reality of increased retail store violence with the “Retail Worker Safety Act.” Among the law’s comprehensive requirements is that employers with more than 500 retail employees nationwide must provide panic buttons for employees to contact local law enforcement by January 1, 2027.
