Should we raise our kids to be humble? ?? (Especially in a world of ?? self-promotion!) Often, we think that if somebody is humble, they might be meek, downtrodden, or perhaps lack self-confidence. ? Thats the wrong definition of humility. To be humble is to simply understand our limitations, and to acknowledge the role that God plays in our life. That is to say — there is a lot that is out of our control… … And, when we achieve success, it’s not just because of our own doing, rather it is because of an infinite number of other factors that are out of our control. When we adopt humility, it allows us to: 1?? Better accept feedback from others 2?? Apologize when we make mistakes 3?? Seek out opportunities to learn Said differently, humility is the foundation of a growth mindset. (In stark contrast to pride, or hubris, which precedes the downfall) Humility is one of the 36 themes we prioritize in the Noor Kids Character-building Program… … and, the best way to teach our kids this characteristic is to model humility as a parent. ?? Something GREAT happend yesterday As we fast during Ramadan, we teach our kids at Noor Kids is to remember those who have less than we do. There is no group that is more worthy to support than children who have lost their parents in Palestine and across the world. So, last night, we held a “Muslim Dad Joke Fundraiser” to help raise funds for orphans. And…. Over the last 12 hours, our Noor Kids community raised over ?? $75,000 in critical aid to help sponsor orphans across the world. Some children gave $5, other kids gave $50 or $100 of their hard earned savings. And together, we learned a powerful, lifelong lesson on the importance of generosity. ?? ?? I'm excited to announce that Noor Kids has served over 100,000 families over the last 23 days during our Ramadan Camp for Kids! Our kids are growing up on the frontlines of a world that is becoming more challenging by the day... ... and, every parent needs a helping-hand. Last year, we launched "the Muslim Treehouse," an online education platform where every week we provide fun, live classes on topics that matter. It's working! :-) Dr. Freda Shamma, previously a leader of the Islamic Schools League of America said, “We have nothing for our children that compares to Noor Kids.” We're just getting started... I can't wait for you to see what comes next?? ???? This Ramadan, I have "dream duas" that I hope you can help with! 1. UK/Australia/Malaysia Tour - This summer, my family and I plan to spend three months aboard to better understand how we can serve families outside of the US and Canada... along the way, I hope do do some live storytelling programs. ?? ???? Can religion be fun for kids? Obviously, the answer is no. (I’m just kidding ??) This Ramadan, we’ve set out to help Muslim kids learn about their faith in a way that kids *actually* enjoy through daily classes. But, is it working? I have some data ???♀? Our 5pm CST classes are on Zoom and YouTube… … we need to do this because the max capacity on zoom is 1,000 participants… and for those kids that can’t make it to zoom, they can watch on YouTube. ?? Last night, we hit capacity in Zoom at 4:32pm. That means — 1,000 kids from across the world joined a class about religion 28 minutes before the class even started. ?? When I was a kid, you had to twist my arm and force me to go to Sunday school… … It felt like a necessary evil! ?? But, through the grace of God, we’ve been able to get our kiddos so excited that they are literally showing up early! I hope and I pray that we are blessed with the opportunity to continue serving families through Noor Kids. It’s the honor of my life.
