?? Next week Noodle is at the UPCEA Annual Conference in Denver! New policies, alternative credentials, and the rise of AI in digital learning are pushing higher education to adapt faster than ever. You have the ideas to drive progress—we're here to help clear the path. Swing by booth # 503 and together, let’s Noodle on it. And in case you missed it, check out our, "The Key to Professional & Continuing Education Success Starts with Your Systems Data" article from our own Regina Law published with UPCEA earlier this month. https://bit.ly/4bU2KbF -------- Your university’s systems—processes, people, and technology—shape every interaction, from student enrollment to lifelong learning. These systems can be a catalyst for innovation or a barrier that keeps you tethered to outdated methods. A common pitfall? Prioritizing the features of your technology over the experiences you want to create for students, staff, and faculty. Technology is merely a tool; it’s how you leverage it that drives meaningful transformation. By aligning the right systems with forward-thinking strategies, you can: ? Enhance student experiences ? Foster growth ? Redefine the way your university operates The future of your institution lies in how you connect systems with vision. #HigherEdNoodlings #Edtechinnovation #HigherEdpartner

The shift from a seller’s to buyer’s market caught many institutions flat-footed, clinging to traditional views about how institutions interact with prospects as well as outdated approaches to the business aspects of running institutions. With specific regard to marketing, consider that the concepts our marketing professors teach are as valid for higher education as they are for business. Institutions that conducted research in the past 3 years with: ?? Inquiries 47% ?? Parents 35% ?? General Public 37% “Students are sophisticated buyers who look at the most expensive purchase in their life with a higher level of expectation: considering different options, wanting to know about price and ROI, how they’re being treated.” Stephen Green, Noodle Chief Partnerships Officer “I believe it's not only in the CMO’s purview, but it's really their mandate to bring university leadership critical market insights that drive overall university strategy.” Rich Kochman, Noodle Chief Marketing Officer Curious, intrigued, or ready to weigh in? Had the opportunity to represent UNCF and join an insightful panel at the University Networking Summit on “From Transactional to Transformational: How to Build Meaningful Partnerships.” Moderated by Noodle’s Stephen Green, the discussion featured leaders Chris Motz, EJD - University of Maryland Global Campus, Janelle Simmonds - Siemens, and Kristen D. Fox - Business + Higher Education Roundtable, all focused on shifting university-industry collaborations from short-term sponsorships to long-term, high-impact alliances. The conversation explored how institutions and companies can embed partnerships into their core strategies, align goals for workforce development, and leverage technology to drive efficiency and sustainability. The key takeaway was clear—true partnerships require intentionality, shared investment, and measurable impact. Moving beyond transactional relationships means creating networks that maximize resources, strengthen institutional capacity, and deliver real value to students and employers alike. Looking forward to continuing the conversation and building more meaningful, transformative collaborations. #HBCUs #Partmerships #UNCFICB

University Network Summit, Georgetown University, March 5-7 Former Undersecretary, President of ACE, University Presidents and commentators shared perspectives and recommendations. *Universities should collaborate and share innovations in networks, rather than work alone/compete with peer and proximate institutions. *Diversification of revenue with new sources is critical. *Bipartisan support for Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment requirements for increased outcome accountability. *MAP (Merger Affiliation Partnership) discussions are taking place with greater frequency and not just behind closed doors. *Consolidation will accelerate in the upper Midwest and mid-Atlantic tracking demographic trends. *Workforce development/nondegree programs to be supported, possibly with micro Pell grants. *@PhilHill predicts that the US Department of Education will not be eliminated but significantly re-shaped, with responsibility for programs such as CTE and Title IV transferred to other agencies.

Day one of the University Network Summit is a wrap! Packed with sharp insights, bold ideas, and enough candid discussions to fuel a year's worth of friendly debates—and coffee breaks. ? ?? We kicked off with a keynote panel that sparked critical dialogue, covering everything from the role of employers in higher ed to the growing influence of private investment and alternative funding models. ?? Then, in?Higher Ed in the Headlines, journalists and analysts weighed in on the future of institutional funding, potential policy shifts, and the changing higher ed landscape—some predictions were optimistic, others were bluntly realistic. Either way, one thing was clear:?change is coming fast. ??And, of course, we closed the night with great food, great company, and a few lively debates at La Vie. Some highlights: ?? Conversations on?Closures & Consolidations Are No Longer Taboo:?Leaders are openly discussing how to adapt to declining enrollments, financial constraints, and shifting student expectations, and that means rethinking institutional models, exploring strategic partnerships, and making tough but necessary decisions to ensure long-term sustainability. ?? Employers Are Becoming Key Players in Education:?Companies are no longer just end users of talent; they’re actively shaping curriculum, funding workforce development, and demanding stronger ROI from partnerships with institutions. ?? Higher Ed is Entering an Era of Customization:?Traditional degree paths are being challenged by more flexible, modular learning experiences—one panelist likening the future of education to a Spotify playlist, built by and for the learner. ?? Federal & State Policy Gaps Are Widening:?With uncertainty at the federal level, states and employers are stepping in to drive workforce alignment and fill gaps in funding and program development. ?? Business Model Alternatives:?Institutions are being pushed to prove value, lower costs, and rethink traditional funding models, with private investment and alternative revenue streams playing a growing role. Day two is in the books! Favorite thing overheard during a networking break, "People are finally saying the quiet parts out loud." Some other things we're hearing from attendees: ?? The institutions that survive will be the ones that rethink revenue—now. Tuition alone won’t cut it, and waiting isn’t a strategy. The smartest institutions are already diversifying—leveraging strategic partnerships, alternative credentials, and new business models to stay ahead and open. "The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia predicts that up to 80 colleges could close in 2025. Like they said on the panel, conversations around consolidations are still unclear, and we need more tools and resources to have better discussions on our campuses." ?? Online learning isn’t the innovation it once was. The market is saturated, students expect more than just convenience, and simply offering online programs isn’t a competitive edge anymore. The real opportunity? Rethinking delivery models—blending high-impact experiences, workplace integration, and personalized learning that goes beyond just putting courses on a screen. Quote: “The way online learning exists today will soon be the next 90s discussion board”. ?? We need to focus on learners as "consumers." Students aren’t just enrolling—they’re making an investment. We need to start seeing them as "consumers" who demand more than just a degree—they expect real value, flexibility, and measurable outcomes. “My university is treating students as passive recipients rather than active consumers, and we’re missing a massive opportunity to deliver the value they’re looking for.” ?? I feel stuck! Quote: "My responsibility at my institution is to help drive innovation, but I feel stuck because they don't want innovation, they want quick revenue. I made this trip to get unstuck and inspired. I'm leaving here with plans to meet with [NAME] so he can walk me through what he did to actually drive innovation and a new business model." ?? You don’t need everyone—just the right ones. Trying to bring the whole institution along from day one is a recipe for failure. "Find someone who isn’t protecting their job or status", or "find the small seed group that’s ready to move". Noodle Huron ETS Oracle Unicon, Inc. Springboard Holland & Knight LLP
