?? URGENT ACTION NEEDED ?? Congress is advancing H.R. 9495, a bill that could threaten the very foundation of the nonprofit sector by allowing organizations to be shut down without evidence. This is a direct attack on nonprofits supporting human rights, environmental protection, and veterans' services—putting millions of vulnerable people at risk. ACT NOW to protect our communities! ?? Contact your representatives today! Use the message below or tailor it to your specific needs: Dear [Representative's Name], I am deeply concerned about H.R. 9495, which poses a severe threat to the nonprofit sector. Allowing authorities to shut down nonprofits without evidence by labeling them as "terrorist-supporting organizations" undermines the democratic principles that guide our work. This bill could unjustly target nonprofits working in critical areas such as human rights, environmental protection, and veterans’ support, leaving communities vulnerable and underserved. I urge you to stand with New York’s nonprofits by supporting the passage of S.4877-A / A.2740-B and opposing harmful federal legislation like H.R. 9495 to ensure nonprofits have the resources and protections they need to thrive. Thank you for your leadership and attention to these crucial issues. Sincerely, [Your Name Here] ?? Together, we can protect the essential services nonprofits provide. Attention Nonprofit Resource Hub Associate Members, Nonprofit Partners, Valued Board Members, Volunteers, and Employees: In Suffolk County, Resolution 1687 is progressing through the legislative process, with key dates ahead that could significantly affect nonprofits in our community. As it stands, the timeline is as follows: November 6th: Legislative meeting to approve the 2025 Operating Budget, which includes full funding for nonprofits potentially impacted by this bill. Resolution 1687 itself will not be addressed at this meeting. November 19th: Budget and Finance Committee meeting, where the authors are expected to present an amended version of the legislation. While they have indicated plans to remove the requirement for listing all donors and their addresses, this could reappear in future bills. Following this meeting, the committee will likely table the resolution for public hearing. November 26th: General Meeting of the Legislature and Public Hearing on Resolution 1687 (amended bill). If the public hearing is closed, the bill will return to the Budget and Finance Committee for a vote. December 10th: Budget and Finance Committee meeting to consider the proposed legislation. Options at this stage include: Vote to approve (requires a majority to proceed to a full legislative vote; a 3/3 vote results in the resolution failing) Vote to table (does not move forward for a full legislative vote) Table subject to call (does not proceed but can be reconsidered at any time), Discharge without recommendation (moves to the full legislature without committee approval). December 17th: If approved in committee, the bill will go before the full legislature for a final vote. If tabled, it will not reach the full legislature during this session. We urge you to take action and make your voice heard. Now is the time for board members, volunteers, employees, and advocates of the nonprofit sector to speak up on Resolution 1687. Reach out to Suffolk County legislators by phone or email, share your perspectives, and consider preparing a testimony for the upcoming public hearing on November 26th. Your insights and experiences are vital to shaping how this resolution impacts nonprofits. Together, we can ensure that our voices resonate in every discussion and decision. Let's stand united for a stronger, more supportive future for the nonprofit sector.
