?? #GMOs were once marketed as a solution to food insecurity. But decades later, we see the real picture: more corporate control, more chemical use, and higher risks for farmers and biodiversity. Now, the EU is making it easier for #NewGMOs to enter our food system—fewer safety checks ? , no clear labeling ? , and no real protections for farmers against contamination ? . While Europe is opening the door wider for agribusiness, other countries are taking a stand: ?? Kenya banned GMO imports. ?? The Philippines blocked the cultivation of GMO rice. ?? Mexico outlawed GMO corn to protect its cultural and agricultural heritage. Why? Because they've seen the damage! ?? GMOs, old and new, are only feeding corporate profits. The latest example? A newly modified banana that doesn’t improve nutrition or support farmers, but simply extends shelf life to reduce supermarket losses. ?? Why is the EU prioritizing deregulation and techno-fixes over real solutions? Supporting small-scale farmers and biodiversity is the only path to a truly resilient food system. #Agroecology is the future—not corporate shortcuts. ?? #Corn is resistance. ?? ?? "Economically, most small-scale farmers can not afford the patented seeds, much less the pesticides that many GM varieties require. Socially, the government’s declaration of native, non-certified seeds as “illegal” was akin to a cultural death—an imposed severing of ancestral knowledge, traditions, and connection with the land that is integral to the indigenous way of life."

?? ?????? ???????????????? ???? ????????: ???????????? ?????????? ???? ???????????????????? For the past 2 months, I have been traveling in Latin America and uncovering a larger story about corn, politics, power and resistance. I had the opportunity to meet indigenous farmers in Colombia who have been working for decades to preserve their ancestral seeds and knowledge, resisting against a US-pressured resolution in 2010 that made sewing their native seeds illegal. This story explores the larger factors of geopolitical power and profit that shape our food systems and affect all of us, whether we are aware or not. If you are interested in food systems, sustainability, cultural resistance, indigenous wisdom and the future of agriculture, THIS IS FOR YOU! “We want more packaged food to be metabolically nourishing. We want CPGs to change their formulations and their ingredients. And we want it to be easy for shoppers who are busy and on a budget, in a hurry, to easily find things that they know are going to be more nourishing for their families.” - Megan Westgate Find the full conversation with Adrianne DeLuca of BevNET/NOSH ?? https://lnkd.in/ggEJX2i5 Food Integrity Collective Non-GMO Project #UPF #ultraprocessedfoods #expowest

We know that diversity is resilience, and the story of bananas provides a real-world example of what happens when homogeneity is prioritized over diversity (spoiler: it's not good). ?????? Read all about bananas on our New GMO Alert: https://lnkd.in/gjebHGKA

?? LISTEN: Investing in Regenerative Agriculture and Food podcast with our Director of Strategic Partnerships Kiira Heymann is live now! In the convo: - Why introduce another label? - Why non-ultraprocessed food? - Why should consumers demand more from their food system? "This isn't just another label—it's a carefully considered intervention designed to reconnect people with their food in profound ways. When 70% of American store shelves hold ultra-processed products engineered with ingredients banned in other countries, the stakes couldn't be higher." This clip from one of the latest installments of The Checkout Substack from Errol Schweizer stuck with us as it contains so much of the essence of the Food Integrity Collective. ?? The food system we hope to bring into being is one in which food nourishes all life on Earth based on the understanding that "all flourishing is mutual." The current food system is based on a paradigm of relentless competition that fuels systems of extraction and exploitation. Despite producing SO much, a scarcity mindset continues to dominate. It doesn't make sense – and it's not a path we can continue to walk. How can we, as individuals, companies, and organizations, begin to create a new cycle rooted in the well-being of all life? What do we have to believe is possible in order to do so? ?? Read the full newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gKQ-Ayve #foodshouldnourishlife #allflourishingismutual

????????: Last week, Mexico officially banned the planting of GMO corn in its territory, marking a significant policy shift with potential trade implications. This is a big win for food and seed sovereignty at the federal level, setting a strong precedent that other countries can look to for guidance. A quick timeline of events leading up to this moment: ?? December 2020: President Andrés Manuel López Obrador issued a decree aiming to phase out the use of GM corn and glyphosate by 2024, expressing general concerns over health and environmental impacts. ???? March 2023: The US and Canada formally requested dispute settlement consultations under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), arguing that Mexico's measures lacked scientific basis and hindered trade. ?? December 20, 2024: A USMCA dispute resolution panel ruled that Mexico's restrictions on GM corn imports violated the USMCA, stating that the measures were not based on scientific evidence. ? December 21, 2024: Now-President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed confidence that the Mexican Congress would enact legislation to ban the planting of GM corn, emphasizing the need to protect biodiversity. ?? February 26, 2025: The constitutional reform officially banning the cultivation of GM corn in Mexico was enacted, designating native corn as an element of national identity. #GMOs #Mexico #maíz
